Poker Blogger, Photographer Used Chopsticks to Steal Dealer Tips at Casino

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. – (Associated Press) - A poker blogger has been sentenced to a probation program for stealing nearly $700 in dealers’ tips by pulling the cash out of a locked box with chopsticks.

Forty-one-year-old Jay Newnum of Fishers, Ind., has returned the money and announced in a blog post that he plans to “step away from the poker world indefinitely.”

Judge: Alabama AG Office Can’t Keep Confiscated Gambling Machines, Cash

(Associated Press) - A judge says the Alabama attorney general's office can't keep nearly $94,000 in cash and 376 gambling machines seized in a raid of Greenetrack in 2011.

Circuit Judge Houston Brown ruled Wednesday that the state waited too long to file correct paperwork seeking forfeiture of the cash and machines seized in the raid of the Greene County gambling business on June 1, 2011.

The judge said the state's 13-week delay made the forfeiture complaint ineffective.

London Affiliate Conference 2014 Registrations Massively Up (Video)

Alex Pratt of London Affiliate Conference (LAC) tells CalvinAyre.com the event is so far seeing record numbers over past years.

“We are seeing between 50 and 100 registrations per day,” he relayed.

The event, now celebrating its 8th year, will take place on February 7-9 (2014).  Over 3000 people attended last year’s LAC with that number to be higher this year, based on Pratt’s estimates.

Ireland’s biggest bookmaker, Paddy Power, reportedly sent North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un baby clothing and Irish whiskey last month.

Paddy Power financed former NBA player Dennis Rodman’s trip to the “Hermit Kingdom”.  They have since severed ties with Rodman.

‘Operation Pork Chop” Gambling Defendants Arraigned

The last of 16 individuals indicted for running an illegal gambling operation last September were arraigned this Tuesday in Allegheny County (Pennsylvania) Common Pleas Court.  All but two of the individuals are charged with conspiracy.  Some face other charges such as illegal gambling.

Courtside Betting Crackdown at Australian Open: Arrest Made

Police have arrested a British man and are seeking a “series of individuals” suspected to be ‘courtsiding’, or placing bets illegally on spot events to corrupt gambling markets, on tennis matches at the Australian Open.

A 22-year-old was arrested during a game at Melbourne Park on Tuesday and charged with one count of “engaging in conduct that would corrupt a betting outcome,” deputy commissioner Graham Ashton told reporters in Melbourne on Wednesday.

Breaking News: Online Gambling in New Jersey Sees $8.4 Million Gambled

$8.4 million has been gambled online in New Jersey since the Garden State launched real money online gambling in late November, according to figures released Tuesday afternoon. 

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa far outpaced the other six Atlantic City properties in online gaming revenue, bringing in $3.7 million, nearly half of the total. Ceasars Interactive Entertainment, which operates online gambling through the Bally’s and Caesars properties in Atlantic City, came in next at $2.4 million.

Fixed Odds Gamblers Just Stepped Over Murdered Ladbrokes Manager to Play

A Ladbrokes manager lay dead on the floor after being struck with a hammer yet patrons continued to gamble away as if nothing had happened, authorities say.

NJ's Atlantic Club Casino Hotel Now Closed

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. --  (Associated Press) - The embattled Atlantic Club Casino Hotel closed early Monday, a victim of the casino saturation taking place in the Northeast.

About 1,600 people lost their jobs at 12:01 a.m. as the 33-year-old casino shut its doors. Tearful employees embraced one another and exchanged goodbyes.
