Last night, SportsBetting.ag set the Dolphins-Bills line at -16.5. This marks the largest spread Buffalo has been favored by since 1993, which was the last year the Bills were in the Super Bowl.

The Dolphins have been underdogs of 14 points or more four times this season, including Week 7. The record for the most games as an underdog of 14 or more is five, held by the 1999 Cleveland Browns, a team that wasn't favored once that season.

The average point spread over the 16-game season for those expansion Browns was +10.69 points, which is the highest mark in the record books. Through five games, the Dolphins are set to shatter that mark with an average point spread of +13.6 points.

"During the 20 years that I've been in this business, Miami is the lowest power-rated NFL team I've ever set odds for," said SportsBetting.ag's head linesman, Adam Burns.

Of course that procures the perennial question as to whether or not a superior college team such as Alabama, Clemson or Ohio State could beat the Dolphins.

"This is always a fun water-cooler conversation, but the answer hasn't changed," Burns said. "The Dolphins would be at minimum 17-point favorites against the country's best college team. There's a massive gap between an NFL roster and a team with a few NFL-caliber players on the roster."

The Dolphins will aim to do what the Bills did last season when they became the biggest road underdogs to win outright when they beat Minnesota as 17-point dogs. But Miami hasn't faired well in this situation recently, going 0-5 straight up and against the spread in its last five games as a double-digit favorite.
