‘Cold Case’: Canadian Gambler Indicted for Stiffing Casinos Out of $12.9 Mil

A Canadian gamblers has been indicted by a grand jury for failing to pay back $7.9 million in markers to the Venetian resort and $5 million to the Green Valley Ranch resort, both in Las Vegas.

Real estate magnate Semion Kronenfeld faces 12 counts, including theft and obtaining money under false pretenses, for failing to pay the two casino establishments.

Kronenfeld was first charged in 2008, making this somewhat of a cold case.

10 US States Explore Internet Gambling

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — (Associated Press) - At least 10 U.S. states are considering bills to legalize or expand Internet gambling this year, according to a group that tracks gambling-related legislation worldwide. But the Gambling Compliance survey also finds slim chances for a national law to regulate Internet poker, predicting a major effort by online gambling opponents to block it in Congress.

Sports Betting Ring Taken Down in Rhode Island: 13 Arrested

Thirteen individuals were arrested as part of a crackdown on illegal sports betting in Northern Rhode Island Tuesday.  All were arraigned in District Court Providence during the afternoon.

Former Philadelphia Mayor’s Daughter Spared in Mob Gambling Case

PHILADELPHIA - (Associated Press) — The daughter of a former Philadelphia mayor is likely to go free in the latest gambling prosecution of her husband, who admits running a global sports betting ring.

Joanna Mastronardo, daughter of the late Mayor Frank Rizzo, will have a banking charge dropped if other defendants plead guilty to racketeering and gambling charges.

Her husband, Joseph "Joe Vito" Mastronardo Sr., and son, Joseph F. "Joey" Mastronardo, pleaded guilty on Friday.

A federal judge said Tuesday that he will drop her case when they are sentenced.

Zynga Shares Rise With UBS Upgrade to ‘Buy’

Social gaming giant Zynga witnessed its biggest share price surge in nearly a year Tuesday thanks to a positive upgrade.

UBS raised its rating on the game maker's stock to "buy" from "neutral," saying Zynga's core operations had begun to stabilize under the new management team and that its $527 million acquisition of mobile game developer NaturalMotion would result in more scale and innovation at Zynga.

Wynn Approved for Online Gambling License in New Jersey: Uncertain of Plans

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (Associated Press) - In the decades since he left Atlantic City for the more prosperous sands of Las Vegas, casino mogul Steve Wynn has repeatedly considered a return here, only to decide against it.

This may be another one of those instances.

New Jersey gambling regulators have approved Wynn to offer an Internet gambling site in the state where he once ruled the roost. But a Wynn spokesman said plans by Wynn Interactive to offer online gambling in New Jersey are on hold as it studies the fledgling market.

Poll Finds More New Jersey Residents Prefer Pot Over Online Gambling

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (Associated Press) - A new poll finds more New Jersey residents want to smoke pot than gamble over the Internet.

A Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind poll finds 41 percent of respondents would support smoking marijuana recreationally if it became legal.

That compares to only 32 percent who support gambling over the Internet, which is legal in New Jersey now.

The poll finds support for online gambling has fallen, even as it enters its third full month and more than 150,000 online gambling accounts have been set up in the state.

Koutoupas, who was runner-up to Ramzi Jelassi at EPT9 Prague, beat Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov heads-up today thus thwarting the Ukrainian’s bid to secure poker’s Triple Crown. China Gambling Propels Wynn's 4Q Profit

LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) — Wynn Resorts Ltd. said Thursday that its fourth-quarter profit nearly doubled on gains in Macau, the only place in China where casino gambling is legal.

Net income for the October-December period came to $213.9 million, or $2.10 per share, from $111.4 million, or $1.10 per share, in the same months in 2012.

Excluding special items, Wynn made $2.27 per share. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $1.72 per share.
