CINCINNATI (Associated Press) — A provision in the Ohio Senate’s budget proposal would let the state collect and save camera images of each casino customer who redeems earnings for cash.
Republican lawmaker Sen. Bill Coley sponsored the amendment. He tells The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/14rOfEX ) it’s intended to help law enforcement crack down on money laundering and people who use gambling to conceal sources of money acquired illegally. In such cases, people might exchange that money for chips and then redeem them as alleged casino winnings.
Journalists Could Taint Jury Pool in Whitey Bulger Trial
(Reuters) - A lawyer for accused Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger said a newspaper column on Friday by a journalist named as a potential witness in his trial for 19 murders was a "scathing attack" that could prejudice jurors.
Bulger's defense this week took the unusual step of listing journalists, including Boston Globe columnist Kevin Cullen and reporter Shelly Murphy, on its list of 82 potential witnesses.

Internet Gambling Bill: Don’t be Fooled by Reid’s Bearish Attitude
Former boxer turned Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) came out swinging Friday against online gambling legislation introduced by Congressman Peter King (R-New York).
“(It) basically authorizes everything – 21, poker, everything,” Reid said of King’s bill.
“I felt for several months now that I don’t see any movement on this,” Reid said. “I don’t see anything happening.”
But Reid can ill-afford to anger the casino sector in his home state, the majority of which want legalization at the federal level.

Accused Mobster Whitey Bulger Attorneys Want Crime Reporters to Testify
BOSTON (Reuters) - Lawyers for James "Whitey" Bulger, the accused gangster whose story inspired the award-winning film "The Departed," are fighting to have a half-dozen veteran Boston journalists listed as potential witnesses at his murder trial, effectively barring them from covering it.
Bulger's lawyers have submitted a list of 82 people including journalists and top officials at the FBI that they may call as witnesses in the trial, which begins next week in U.S. District Court in Boston and is expected to last four months.

Jury Selection Underway for Whitey Bulger Trial
BOSTON (Associated Press) — As jury selection gets underway in the long-awaited trial of reputed gangster James "Whitey" Bulger, the biggest challenge may be finding 18 people who can spend the next four months hearing the case.
Unlike some other high-profile mob cases, jurors in the Bulger trial won't be sequestered and their identities will be made public after the verdict.
A judge told prospective jurors Tuesday that despite Bulger's notoriety, the approach to picking a jury remain the same.
