Gambling911.com Closes the First Half of the Season With a 5-1 Run (July 9, 2023)

It didn't look good for our final play of the first half of the season as Toronto was down 3-1 only to score two runs in that final inning of regulation.  The Blue Jays would ultimately score another run in the 10th to secure the win.

2-0 Saturday (July 8, 2023)

Well, it has been a rough week but we pulled off some strong plays Friday and Saturday.

The Reds-Brewers OVER 9.5 came pretty quickly while we had to sweat a bit towards the end of the Indians game as KC nearly caught up in the 8th after the Guardians created a nice sized cushion.

Here are our plays over the past two days:

Saturday July 8 - Cincinnati Reds @ Milwaukee Brewers - Pick OVER 9.5 W

Saturday July 8 - Kansas City Royals @ Cleveland Guardians - Pick Guardians -180 W

Friday July 7 - Philadelphia Phillies @ Miami Marlins - Pick Phillies -134 W

Friday July 7 - Kansas City Royals @ Cleveland Guardians - Pick Guardians -175 W

Friday July 7 - Baltimore Orioles @ Minnesota Twins - Pick Twins -145 L

Phillies @ Marlins (July 7, 2023)

The Phillies are winning 80% of their games and are 11-5 in the last 16 meetings.  They are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Miami.

Phillies career statistics vs. the Miami Marlins Sandy Alcantara (3-7, 4.93 ERA) are .313 (68 hits in 217 at bats).  He has only permitted three home runs.

Alec Bohm is 8 of 20 against him with 6 RBIs.  Nick Castellanos is 6 for 18.  Bryce Harper is 11 for 33 with a homer against him. Edmundo Sosa is 3 for 6.  Trea Turner is 12 for 30 with a home run.

Alcantara surrendered four runs over five innings Sunday in a loss to the Braves.

The Phillies are 10-1 in their last 11 road games vs. a right-handed starter.

Zack Wheeler won Saturday despite allowing four runs in five innings against the Nationals.  He is 7-4 with a 4.09 ERA.

In 91 at bats, the current Phillies lineup has failed to score a home run against Wheeler.

The Marlins are 12-3 in their last 15 home games vs. a right-handed starter.

Take the Phillies in this one -134

Royals @ Guardians (July 7, 2023)

Today we get the Cleveland Guardians under -180 hosting a bad Kansas City Royals team.  If you do your shopping you can find Cleveland as low as -175.  Other books have them at -190.

Aaron Civale is 2-2 with a 2.96 ERA.  He's gone at least six frames for three straight outings, sporting a 3.38 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over that span.

Civale was terrific in a tough-luck no-decision against the Cubs on Sunday, allowing just one run on three hits over six strong frames.  yielded four runs in six innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Brewers before that.

We'd say he is due here for a win, especially when one considers the Royals tote the fourth-highest strikeout rate and second-lowest wOBA facing right-handers into Progressive Field.

Also of note, the Royals career statistics vs. Civale are just 13 of 62 (.210).  Yes, five of those were home runs, which scares us just a bit.

Edward Olivares scored a homer but it is Salvador Perez that has 15 on the season and also has one home run against Civale.

Michael Massey has hit well against him with a homer but is playing poorly this season.

David Lynch is 2-3 with a 4.14 ERA with Cleveland's current roster 18-for-41 against him.  Andres Gimenez, Jose Ramirez and Amed Rosario have been especially solid versus Lynch.

Do take Cleveland -175 here

Bailey Ober Faces Off Against Orioles (July 7, 2023)

Minnesota Twins Bailey Ober has fanned only 40 in his first 46⅓ innings.  He's 5-4 with an ERA of 2.70.

Ober allowed just a pair of singles and walked none over seven innings in the Twins’ 1-0 victory over the Orioles on Saturday.  He's allowed 4 hits in 29 at bats versus an Orioles lineup that has struggled against righties on the road.  The Orioles strikeout rate is a bit higher on the road as well.

Cole Irvin (1-3, 6.32 ERA) pitched five innings of one-run ball but did not factor into the decision on Sunday.

Irvin has permitted 16 hits in 62 at bats.  Christian Vazquez is 6 for 10 against him but just .217 on the season.

The Orioles are just 6-20 in the last 26 meetings in Minnesota.

Baltimore is currently winning 40% of their games while the Twins are winning 60% of theirs.

Take Minnesota -145 here

Marlins Looking for the Sweep (July 6, 2023)

Eury Perez is coming off a loss to Atlanta where he was lit up for six runs in just one-third of an inning by the Braves on Saturday.  The Cards coming to town could offer the perfect redemption.

Perez came into the night having allowed just one run over 33 innings in his last six starts. Perez owns a 1.01 ERA at home where he's not surprisingly 3-0 with that low a number.

Jack Flaherty is 5-5 with a 4.60 ERA.  He just tossed six scoreless innings on Saturday in a win over the Yankees and took the win his start before that (and before suffering a hip injury) against the Nationals.  It was a game where he allowed six runs in 6 1/3 innings.

In his limited appearances against the Marlins current bats, Flaherty has allowed just 5 hits in 26 at bats.  Yuli Gurriel is 2-for-2 against him.

The Cards bullpen that have already blown 16 saves this season compared to just 17 the entire last season. OUCH!!!!

The Cardinals are 5-13 in their last 18 games following a loss.

The Marlins are 15-3 in their last 18 home games vs. a right-handed starter.

Really tough to pass up the Marlins here at -122 though keep in mind we are in a bit of a funk of late.

Blue Jays @ White Sox (July 6, 2023)

Wednesday’s game between the Blue Jays and White Sox was postponed due to inclement weather.

Jose Berrios (8-6, 3.73 ERA) is coming off a loss against the Red Sox his last start for the Jays. He gave up three homers and four runs over six innings in that one.  His prior start Berríos yielded three runs -- two earned -- in six innings over the A's and yielded five runs in four innings in a loss to the Marlins.

Berrios did not allow any scores to the Orioles before that and had a quality start on June 8.

Is a reboot in order for July?

Berrios has been lackluster against the White Sox as he's permitted 48 hits off of 163 at bat against their current lineup.  This included five home runs from five different batters. Two of three who have been especially proficient against Berrios have played poorly this season. Eloy Jimenez has been solid and is 9 for 26 against him with a homer.

Lance Lynn is 5-8 with a 6.47 ERA.  Lynn gave up three homers and five runs in six innings against the Angels on Thursday.  Before that Lynn struck out seven and allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings against the Red Sox.

He's been decent against the current Jays lineup (.243).  Two of four homers hit off of Lynn by the Blue Jays were courtesy of Max Chapman but those were the only two hits off of him in 20 at bats.

Should I Bet Against The Yankees at Home This Evening? (July 6, 2023)

Betting the Orioles-Yankees game is a crap shoot until we dive deeper and realize that righty Kyle Bradish holds a 2.78 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over his last ten starts while fanning at lesat seven batters in four of his last five.

The Yankees come into this game without Aaron Judge and simply have not been very good against right-handed pitching this season.  They've even gotten worse this past month.

Bradish is also coming off a loss against Minnesota.  We look at solid pitchers like him coming off a bad start as mostly a positive thing.

Luis Severino for the Yankees is 1-3 with a 6.30 ERA.

Severino was lit up for nine runs (seven earned) over four innings on Saturday in a loss to the Cardinals following his first win of the season.

The one thing that scares us is that Yankees batters (not including Judge) have gone 18 of 48 against him.  He's allowed three home runs, two from Harrison Bader, whose playing decent this season.

Gleyber Torres is 3 for 4 against him.  This is all enough to scare us out of betting Baltimore as the -130 favorite.

Cubs @ Brewers (July 5, 2023)

The Brewers have been pretty strong against the Cubs of late, going 12-5 in the last 17 meetings in Milwaukee.

Justin Steele will start for Chicago and owns a 9-2 record with a 2.43 ERA.  He has won three straight starts.

He has allowed 16 of 60 at bats vs. the current Cubs lineup (.267).  Christian Yelich has the most solid record against him in 16 appearances with 6 hits (.375).

Adrian Houser is 3-2 with a 3.88 ERA for the Brewers. He's coming off a win versus the Mets.

Houser struggled prior to that in a losing effort against the Athletics, surrendering five runs on six hits over his four-plus innings of work.

The Cubs career statistics vs. Houser are 13 of 47 (.277).

The Cubs have scored 6 or more in their last three games, 5 or more in seven of their last ten.

The Over is 5-0 in Brewers last 5 overall.

We will be on the OVER 8.5 in this one.

Blue Jays vs. White Sox 8:10 pm Game (July 4, 2023)

The Blue Jays have won their last three games against the White Sox and seven of the last ten meetings.  Both teams are winning 50% of their games overall.  Though the last three games have stayed UNDER the current total of 8.5, the prior seven went OVER it.

Chris Bassitt is 8-5 with a 4.06 ERA.  Bassitt recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts over six shutout innings on Thursday in a win over the Giants.  In his prior start, Bassitt yielded four runs in five innings Friday in a no-decision against the A’s.

Eloy Jimenez is 3 for 8 against Bassitt while Andrew Benintendi is 3 for 5 with a home run.

Lucas Giolito allowed four runs with nine strikeouts over seven innings on Wednesday in a win against the Angels.  He allowed three runs -- one earned -- in six innings prior to that against the Red Sox.

The Blue Jays career statistics vs. Giolito are .261 (30 for 115), pretty average.  Alejandro Kirk, though, is 4 for 9 with three homers against him (6 RBIs).

Bo Bichette has a home run against him as well.  He's averaging .317 with 15 home runs on the season and is 3 for 8 against Giolito.

We do like Toronto at -115 here.

Drew Smyly Looks to Rebound After Tough Loss (July 3, 2023)

Drew Smyly is 7-5 with a 3.96 ERA so far and coming off a loss where he allowed seven runs over 3 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a loss against the Phillies.

What better way to find redemption than with a start against a Milwaukee lineup that has the highest strikeout rate against left-handers in the league (27.9%).  Milwaukee's .288 wOBA against left-handers is the lowest in MLB.

He's allowed just three hits by the current Brewers lineup in 31 at bats.

The one drag here is that the Cubs are 5-11 in the last 16 meetings in Milwaukee.  They've also won just 40% of their games overall compared to Milwaukee's 70%.

Julio Teheran is 2-3 with a 2.85 ERA.  He's permitted 9 hits off of 35 at bats against the current Cubs lineup.

He hasn't won since June 16.

The Cubs bullpen has been pretty good of late (3.40 their last ten) and Milwaukee's is just average.

Both these starters are capable of pitching through six frames.

Take the UNDER 9 here.   Be mindful we've lost our last three picks.

Rays Taj Bradley Coming Off Bad Loss Starts in Seattle (July 2, 2023)

Taj Bradley (5-4, 4.78 ERA) was uncharacteristically awful in his most recent start.  Bradley surrendered seven runs -- six earned -- across four innings on Tuesday in a loss against the Diamondbacks.  That ate into what had been a 4.19 ERA for the rookie sensation.

Prior to this, he allowed just one run in six innings against the Orioles for a win and his previous start recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts and was charged with three runs (two earned) over 4 1/3 innings.

Luis Castillo (5-6, 2.86 ERA) registered a quality start in Monday night’s victory over the Nationals, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits across his seven frames for the Mariners.  Prior to that start, he endured a loss against the Yankees Wednesday, allowing three runs on two homers.

He has allowed just 6 hits off 29 at bats versus the current Rays roster (.207).

The Rays are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings but are just 7-15 in the last 22 meetings in Seattle.

Sonny Gray (2.67 ERA) Desperate for a Win (July 2, 2023)

Sonny Gray starts for the Minnesota Twins in Baltimore Sunday.  He does not have a win since April 30 despite going 4-2 with a 2.67 ERA.

We have a total of 9, however, this series has not gone OVER that number in the last six.  The Twins have failed to score more than two runs in four of their last five games overall while Baltimore has failed to score more than a single run in three of their last four games.

Four of the last five games Gray has started in have not gone OVER nine runs.

Sonny Gray posted a quality start in Monday night’s loss to the Braves, surrendering three runs on seven hits over his 6 2/3 innings of work.  Before that he allowed three runs over five innings in a no decision on Wednesday against the Red Sox.

The Twins currently own the best bullpen (2.56 ERA) over the last ten games.   Baltimore does have one of the worst bullpens however (5.24 ERA).

Though a small sampling, Gray has allowed just 6 hits against the current Orioles lineup in 47 at bats.   That's a sick .128.

Cole Irvin is 1-3 with a 7.18 ERA.

Do take the Twins -120 here.

Marlins vs. Braves (July 1, 2023)

Eury Pérez struck out nine over six innings in the Marlins’ 2-0 win over the Pirates on Sunday.  He's been phenomenal so far this season, going 5-1 with a 1.34 ERA, yet the Marlins come into this game against Atlanta as a +138 underdog.

None of the last four games he's started in have resulted in more than 5 runs, yet the total here is 9.

Charlie Morton was credited with a victory for the Braves after allowing three runs in five innings Sunday against the Reds.  He is 7-6 with a 3.81 ERA.  Marlins career statistics vs. Morton is 50 for 179 (.279).  He's allowed five home runs against them.

The Marlins are 6-1 in their last 7 road games vs. a right-handed starter.

Michael Wacha Takes on The Reds (July 1, 2023)

Brandon Williamson has struggled in the Cincinnati Reds rotation, stumbling to a 5.82 ERA across eight starts. And right-handers have been brutal against him.  This might explain the total of 11.5.

That total has little to do with Michael Wacha we would think.  San Diego can be gotten for as low as -155 with Wacha failing to capture the win in his last start vs. San Francisco.

He's 7-2 with a 2.90 ERA.

His only two home runs allowed against the current Reds lineup was versus Joey Votto, who is just .167 on the season with three homers.

Jake Fraley is 3 for 5 against him with two RBIs. Kevin Newman is 3 for 6 against him.

The Padres have lost their last six games.

Pirates Just What the Doctor Ordered for Corbin Burnes? (July 1, 2023)

Corbin Burnes (5-5, 4.10 ERA) will face off against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.  The Brewers are a -132 favorite here.

Burnes wasn’t involved in the decision after allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings against the Guardians on Sunday.  Prior to that, he got obliterated by the Diamondbacks, giving up seven runs on eight hits over his five innings of work.

In the game prior, he threw a quality start against the Twins, going six innings and allowing three earned runs.

Burnes has allowed just 6 hits off of a relatively small sample size of 30 at bats (.200) versus the current Pirates roster.

Pittsburgh has won their last four games and five of their last ten overall, including against Milwaukee last night.

The Brewers have won 60 percent of their most recent games.

The Pirates are 3-8 in their last 11 games vs. a right-handed starter and 1-9 in their last 10 vs. National League Central.

They will be starting Johan Oviedo (3-8, 4.06 ERA).  He hasn't had a win in his last seven games but has pitched well, including seven innings of one-run ball Sunday in a loss to the Marlins and he surrendered just two runs in six innings Tuesday in a loss to the Cubs.

He's allowed just four hits on 21 at bats vs. the current Brewers lineup.

We would not bet against Oviedo in this game.

Nathan Eovaldi Tough Time Against Astros (July 1, 2023)

Nathan Eovaldi does not have a win in his last three starts and we would expect him to be strong in this start, but there is a problem.

Astros career statistics vs. Eovaldi are 29 for 95 (.305) with Jose Altuve hitting 3 homers off of him (9 for 33 at bats) and Alex Bregman is 8 for 16.

Eovaldi yielded two runs in 5 2/3 innings Sunday in a no-decision versus the Yankees and yielded four runs in six innings prior to that in a no-decision versus the White Sox.

Eovaldi is more than capable of going deep.

Hunter Brown is 6-4 with a 3.52 ERA for Houston and also comes into this one with his back up against the wall.

And UNDER is tempting if not for Eovaldi's high .305 vs. Astros batters.

Jon Grey and the Rangers Take on Houston

(June 30, 2023) - Jon Gray lost Saturday after allowing just one run in five innings against the Rangers.  Coming off the injury list due to a blister his last start, Gray was rocked for six runs by the Blue Jays. He last won on June 2 against the Mariners.

Gray is 6-3 with a 2.89 ERA.  Get this, he's allowed just 8 hits by the current Astros lineup off of 43 at bats (.186), just three RBIs and zero home runs. Kyle Tucker is 0-for-10 against him.

Gray is more than capable of going beyond the 7th inning.

The Rangers are 10-3 in their last 13 when their opponent scores 5 runs or more in their previous game.

The Astros start Ronel Blanco (1-0, 4.63 ERA). They are 1-6 in their last 7 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.

Take the Rangers here at -169.

Boston is 1-6 vs. the Blue Jays in Toronto Their Last Seven Meetings

(June 30, 2023) - José Berríos fired 7 2/3 scoreless innings on June 15 in a win over the Orioles.  He beat the Athletics his most recent start and sandwiched in between was a loss to the Miami Marlins.

He owns an 8-5 record with a 3.60 ERA.

Red Sox career statistics vs. Jose Berrios are just .233 against him with 21 hits in 90 at bats, three of those home runs.  Jarren Duran, Alex Verdugo and Masataka Yoshida have pitched well against him.

James Paxton (3-1, 3.19) has been phenomenal striking out players but the Toronto Blue Jays lineup does have one of the lower strikeout rates against southpaw pitching.

Paxton has not had a loss over his last five starts.  He's permitted 22 hits in 94 at bats with four home runs.  Three of those homers were hit by George Springer, who has 11 on the season thus far.

Here is our recent picks record on full display:

Sunday June 18 - Chicago White Sox @ Seattle Mariners - Pick Mariners -150 W

Saturday June 17 - Miami Marlins @ Washington Nationals - Pick Marlins -170 W

Thursday June 15 - Cleveland Guardians vs. San Diego Padres - Pick UNDER 8.5 L

Wednesday June 14 - New York Yankees vs. New York Mets - Pick UNDER 7 P

Should I Back the Mariners and Bryce Miller Today?

(Sunday June 18, 2023) - Bryce Miller takes to the mound for Seattle where he faces off against a White Sox team with the 4th worst Weighted On Base Average (wOBA) against right-handers.  The Mariners were priced as low as -150 Sunday morning.

Miller (4-3, 4.06 ERA) rebounded from a two game skid by racking up six strikeouts over six innings of one-run baseball versus the Marlins his last start.

The Mariners are 13-3 in their last 16 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.

Lance Lynn (4-7, 6.75 ERA) surrendered five runs -- four earned -- in five-plus innings Tuesday in a loss to the Dodgers.  He is without a win in his last three starts.

He's allowed just 16 hits in 80 at bats versus Mariners hitters (.200).  None of those were home runs.

The White Sox come into this game 10 under the .500 mark and winning just 40% of their recent games.  Seattle is playing .500 ball pretty consistently.

Five of the last six have stayed UNDER the current total of 8.

Do take Seattle -150 here.

Capper Mike Williams Just Keeps on Winning

(Sunday June 18, 2023) - If you've been following the G911 Sports Hub leaderboard, you might have seen that Mike Williams of the SportsCapping Group has been absolutely unstoppable of late.

Last night he brought us another winner with this pick on the Phillies (-159).

His streak goes well past the screen shot present below but you get the idea.

As of press time Sunday morning, Williams didn't have a pick for Sunday but you can continue monitoring here.

Braxton Garrett Comes Through Again on Saturday

(Saturday June 17, 2023) - A big win for the Gambling911.com crew as the Marlins Braxton Garrett fanned eight while allowing one run over six innings in defeating the Nationals on Saturday.

Garrett also struck out nine last time out, and he has a 23/2 K/BB ratio in three starts this month.

Up next: The Pirates.

Brayan Bello on a Roll

(Saturday June 17, 2023) - Boston's Brayan Bello owns a 2.80 ERA, holding opponents to two or fewer earned runs in seven of those outings.  He recently allowed just two runs against the Yankees in the Bronx, pitching 7 innings.  Saturday he was slated to start against them at home.  However, this game will likely be postponed due to inclement weather.

Braxton Garrett Smells Blood

(Saturday June 17, 2023) - There is value at -170 today as Braxon Garrett takes on the Washington Nationals, who are just 7 for 32 at bats against him.

Over Garrett's past six starts, he has produced a 2.25 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP with 41 strikeouts in 32 frames.  In this span, he's surrendered more than two runs only once.

He's come off a tough luck no-decision versus the White Sox after pitching 5 1/3 scoreless frames only to be pulled and have Chicago score three runs.

Did we mention that the Nats have only won two of their last ten games overall?

Bobby Miller 3-0 with an 0.78 ERA for the Dodgers Starts Tonight vs. Giants

(Saturday June 17, 2023) - Brad Miller has gone 0.78 ERA and 0.83 WHIP with a 9.0 K/9 rate across four starts since getting called up by the Dodgers from Triple-A. Remarkably, he was able pitch 16 straight scoreless innings.  This included a combined 12 shutout frames against the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies his last two starts.

It does help that the Giants are just 2-9 in the last 11 meetings in Los Angeles and 7-20 in the last 27 meetings between these two teams.

LA is the -165 favorite but they are winning just 40% of their games of late compared to the Giants winning 80% of theirs.

Alex Wood starts for the Giants with a 4.80 ERA.

Hot Capper - Mike Williams

(Saturday June 17, 2023) - Mike Williams of the Gambling911.com Sports Hub has been sick of late.  He's won nine of his last ten picks.  Today Mike is on the Philadelphia Phillies at -159 as they take on the Oakland Athletics, a team that's been pretty hot of late.

Hot Capper - Diego Garcia

(Saturday June 17, 2023) - Diego Garcia is among the hottest of the Gambling911 Sports Hub cappers in Major League Baseball at the moment.

Today, Garcia will be on the Pittsburgh Pirates in the evening game in Milwaukee.

Mitch Keller (8-2, 3.41) will start for the Pirates.  He has only allowed 10 hits off of 45 at bats (.222) versus the current Brewers line up.  Keller is coming off a big win, limiting the Mets to one run and two hits over seven innings for a victory Sunday.  He's won three of his last four.
