Former Star Quarterback, Gambling Addict Art Schlichter Sentenced to 10 Years

One time Ohio State University football star Art Schlichter has been sentenced to 10 years, seven months in prison for fleecing more than 50 people out of millions of dollars in a sports-ticket scheme.  Schlichter, 52, was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $2.2 million.

Ron Paul Wins Majority of Delegates in Nevada, Maine

US GOP Presidential candidate and supporter of legalized online gambling, Ron Paul, has won the most delegates in both Nevada and Main, it was revealed on Sunday. 

The results gave the Texas congressman last state victories even with Mitt Romney’s nomination all but sealed. 

"It's certainly a significant victory," said Jim Azzola of South Portland, Cumberland County coordinator for Paul.

Paul, the last challenger to remain in the contest, finished a close second behind Romney in Maine's GOP caucuses in February, but those results were nonbinding.

Dead Body Found Near Stable of Winning Kentucky Derby Horse I’ll Have Another Stable

The body of an unidentified Hispanic man found Sunday morning in a stable at Churchill Downs was being treated as a homicide, police investigators told the press.  The cause of death would be determined by the coroner, she said.

The discovery was made around 4:30 am in a barn close to where Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another was being kept.  Barn eight had been cordoned off all morning.

Gambling911.com has learned exclusively from a very reliable source that Lock Poker, one of the largest rooms on the Internet, will be taking over the Cake Poker Network. 

Lock, which is widely believed to be one of the top three largest rooms on the Merge Network, will be leaving that network to take control of Cake.

It was explained that as part of the deal, Cake and its current marquee brand, Intertops Poker, are believed to be continuing to operate as separate rooms and there are no plans to integrate them.

Betfair Wins German Online Gambling License

(Reuters) - The first licences to offer online gambling in Germany  have been awarded, with British online betting firm Betfair benefiting from the state of Schleswig Holstein's liberalised gambling rules.

The northern state, whose centre-right coalition government voted in favour of relaxing its gambling laws in September, said on Thursday that it had awarded three licences valid to 2018 - one to Betfair for sports betting, one to Germany's Jaxx AG and one to the state lottery.

Barry Denson to Try and Break Phil Laak’s Record for ‘Longest Poker Marathon’

UK poker player Barry Denson is looking to beat Phil “The Unabomber” Laak’s record for the longest poker session by a single player.  Laak holds the current record at 115 hours (nearly 5 days), which is pretty sick if you ask those of us here at Gambling911.com. 

Denson is doing this for a good cause, and we certainly will be rooting for him.  It’s to raise money for Help For Heroes charity.

Online Gambling Zealot Spencer Cleared in ‘Insider Trading’ Probe

Alabama GOP Representative Spencer Bachus was cleared of wrongdoing in a Congressional “insider trading” probe.

The investigation followed a “60 Minutes” segment where Bachus was said to have been engaging in insider trading and improperly profiting from the 2008 market meltdown.

The Office of Congressional Ethics unanimously dismissed all of the potential charges.

Daniel Negreanu Beat at EPT Grand Final, Will Take on ‘rUaBOT’ at Limit Holdem Challenge

Poker pro Daniel Negreanu has been beaten by Igor Kurganov of Russia at the 2012 EPT Grand Final €25,000 High Roller.  As such, Negreanu lost out on a cool €1,080,000.

Now he moves forward to take on Internet poker player with the handle “rUaBOT”, a well-known limit hold’em specialist, according to PokerNews.com.    

Both will play 1250 hands across two tables.  Whomever has the most chips at the conclusion will win the event.

Playtech Drops Plans for Acquisitions

(Reuters) - Gaming software group Playtech said first quarter revenues doubled, helped by strong growth at its casino business, and that plans to shift its listing to London's main market were progressing well.

However, the group added that it was dropping plans to buy some social gaming assets owned by founder and Israeli billionaire Teddy Sagi, and would instead enter software license agreements.

Its plans for a deal with its top shareholder - Sagi still owns 48 percent of the company - were announced in April.

All three will receive a hefty six digit payout with 1st getting $400,600, 2nd getting $236,560 and 3rd getting $147,850.

iPoker Revenues Down in 1st Quarter Despite Gaining Number 2 Spot

While the iPoker Network has overtaken PartyPoker as the second most trafficked online poker room in the world over the past month, its 1st quarter revenues fell slightly.  iPoker is owned by Israeli-based Playtech.

The poker business made €5.3 million compared to to €5.7 during the same period last year. 

Its online casino arm witnessed a 104 percent increase however.

Ondrej Vinklarek Named EPT Season 8 Player of the Year

Czech poker pro Ondrej Vinklarek has been named EPT Season 8 Player of the Year.  Vinklarek receives a trophy and automatic entry into EPT Barcelona, the debut event for EPT Season 9.

IGT Poker Suffering the Blues in Wake of Purple Lounge Sudden Shutdown

Caesars Sees Deep 1st Quarter Losses

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Casino operator Caesars Entertainment Corp. said Tuesday that its first-quarter net loss widened as the company faced costs from a previously halted property development in Mississippi.

The net loss for the quarter ended March 31 widened to $280.6 million, or $2.24 per share, from a loss of $147.5 million, or $1.18 per share.

Income from operations fell 65 percent $138 million, mainly due to the $172 million charge related to the halted Biloxi, Miss., project That was partly offset by a gain of $45.8 million from paying down debt early.

Leaked Email Shows Bernard Tapie Wanted to Hire Away All Key Full Tilt Poker Staff

An email leaked to the website PokerFuse.com on Tuesday showed that one time Full Tilt Poker suitor Bernard Tapie had hoped to lure away key employees of that shuttered organization in order to start his own online poker site “Game Cubed”.

Last week Group Bernard Tapie withdrew its bid to acquire Full Tilt Poker upon learning that the company’s closest rival, PokerStars, had entered into a deal reportedly worth $750m.  A deal with the US Justice Department would ensure that $330m of that money go to repay Full Tilt account holders, according to some media reports.

Manchester City vs. Manchester United Paddy Power Player Heart Attacks Bet Tweet in ‘Poor Taste’

The UK’s third biggest bookmaker, Paddy Power, has apologized Tuesday for retweeting a Twitter user who asked if they could place a wager on the OVER/UNDER number of player heart attacks during Monday’s Manchester City v Manchester United game.
