Total of 127 Individuals Charged in Brooklyn, N.Y.; Manhattan, N.Y.; Newark, N.J.; and Providence, R.I.

WASHINGTON - Ninety-one members and associates of seven organized crime families of La Cosa Nostra (LCN), including the New England LCN family, all five New York-based families and the New Jersey-based Decavalcante family have been charged with federal crimes in 16 indictments returned in four judicial districts, announced Attorney General Eric Holder. Another 36 defendants also have been charged for their roles in alleged associated criminal activity.

Ernie Scherer Murder Trial Focuses on the Bloody Crime Scene

The murder trial of Ernie Scherer III continued this week with a focus on the bloody crime scene.  

Scherer III is on trial for the March 2008 brutal murder of his parents Ernest Scherer Jr., 60, and Charlene Abendroth, 57, in their Castlewood, California home.  Prosecutors allege that the younger Scherer, a poker player, owed substantial gambling debts and bludgeoned the couple in order to obtain a $1.5 million inheritance.  The elder Scherer had previously refused a loan to Ernie.

Attorney For Ernie Scherer III: “No Proof of His Guilt In Parents Murders”

The double murder trial of Ernie Scherer III continued on Wednesday with his attorney suggesting there is not enough evidence to convict the poker player.

Scherer III is accused of bludgeoning to death his parents, Charlene Abendroth and Ernest Scherer Jr., in their Castlewood Country Club, California home in March of 2008.   Prosecutors argue that the younger Scherer was after his parents $1.5 million inheritance.
