College Bowl Game, NFL Playoffs Traffic Way Up

A Staten Island man has pleaded guilty to setting a former employee's Mercedes-Benz on fire in Ocean County in 2004 out of revenge, the U.S. Attorney's office said.

James LaForte Jr., 32, also admitted Dec. 21 to handing out high-interest loans and then using threats and violence to collect on them - loan-sharking and extortion schemes that carry a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, the attorney's office said.

Pennsylvania State Lottery Strikes Deal With Hockey Teams

Gambling and sports moved a step closer yesterday when the Pennsylvania Lottery announced that it was selling $2 instant-game tickets featuring the logos of the Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins.

The lottery struck deals with the teams and the NHL, just as it had with the Eagles, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the NFL, and before that, with the Phillies, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Major League Baseball.

The hockey tickets will be on sale during the NHL season. The lottery says it designates all proceeds to older residents in the state.

Israel Based Online Gambling Site Internet1x2 Busted

A 10-year old troubled online gambling site that specialized in soccer betting has been busted up by Israeli police resulting in the arrests of 5 people.

Internet1x2.com (at one time also affiliated with a website called Yahoops.com, which the search portal Yahoo! threatened to sue) operated out of Israel and the Central American nation of Belize.  The company was started by two brothers, both of whom were former Israeli basketball players.  The online sportsbook has long endured a checkered past of slow pays.
