Another Victory for Victoria Coren: Becomes First Ever Poker Player to Win EPT Title

Victoria Coren has just accomplished an amazing feat as she becomes the first ever poker player to win two European Poker Tour titles.

During her poker career, Coren has amassed $2,146,562.  The UK player has three wins under her belt and 26 cashes.

Daniel Negreanu Comes to Poker Player’s Defense in Ivey-Gate Borgata Card Scandal

Outspoken poker pro Daniel Negreanu has come out in support of fellow pro Phil Ivey after the Borgata Casino filed a $9.8 million suit against the so-called “Tiger Woods of Poker”.

It wasn’t the game of poker that landed Ivey in hot water with the Borgata however.  Instead is was a series of baccarat games Ivey partook in that has the casino crying foul.

Poker Millionaire Antonio Esfandiari Found Begging for Money at Las Vegas Airport

Winner of the 2012 One Drop and its $18 million grand prize, a now penny-less and hungry Antonio Esfandiari had to resort to begging for money at the Las Vegas Airport in order to buy lunch.

There was a time when homeless people ran amuck in airports prior to 9-11.  No reports of Esfandiari rummaging through the garbage at least

But alas, we’re happy to report that Esfandiari is not homeless. It’s just that the poker pro arrived at Las Vegas’s McCarran Airport without any cash or credit cards in his wallet.  We've all done that.  NOT!!!!!

David Yan Leads for Day 2 of EPT Sanremo 2014

There were 381 entries for Day 1b of the EPT Sanremo Main Event today which, combined with yesterday's 175 Day 1a entries gives a total field of 556 so far - however players have until start of play on Day 2 to buy in.

Leading the 316 players going in to Day 2 is David Yan from New Zealnd with 179,100 chips. The Day 1a chip leader was Cristiano Guerra who had 148,700. EPTLive kicks off at noon with daily coverage from the Main Event from now until the cards-up final table on April 20 (subject to a 1-hour security delay). Cristiano Guerra Leads at EPT Sanremo 2014

There were 176 entries for Day 1a of the EPT Sanremo Main Event today and 103 remain, led by IPT Venice finalist Cristiano Guerra.

Also through to Day 2 are Team PokerStars Pros Vanessa Selbst and Pier Paolo Fabretti plus PokerStars.fr Team Online member Ronan Monfort as well as EPT Prague winner Julian Track and GPI European Rookie of the Year Adrian Mateos who both qualified online on PokerStars.

Poker Pro Phil Ivey Sued by Borgata for Nearly $10 Mil Over Playing Card Scam

Poker pro Phil Ivey is being used by Atlantic City’s Borgata Hotel and Casino over an alleged playing card scam.

The suit is asking for $9.8 million claiming fraudulent winnings during a series of visits to the casino in 2012.

The great thing about poker is that there’s always a possibility that you can come from behind to win, even if you're down to your last chip. And there have certainly been quite a few spectacular poker comebacks over the years in both land-based casinos and online.

Holland Keeps HPT Title, $80K in Florida

Daytona Beach, Florida  - Heartland Poker Tour’s stop at the Daytona Beach Kennel Club & Poker Room again attracted players from across the United States who appreciate the warm weather and well-run event.  Texas, South Carolina, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, and Massachusetts were represented at the televised Final Table. Although the final nine players hailed from seven different states, residents of the Sunshine State proved to have the home field advantage.  The only three Florida residents at the Final Table finished first, second, and third.

Oleksii Khoroshenin of the Ukraine Wins EPT Vienna for €578,392

Ukraine is celebrating its first ever EPT champion with Oleksii Khoroshenin’s €578,392 win in the EPT Vienna Main Event in the stunning imperial Hofburg Palace.

Khoroshenin, 27, an EPT regular who currently lives in St Petersburg, has now jumped from #20 in the Ukraine all-time money list to #7. He made a three-way deal with runner-up Anthony Ghamrawi from Austria and German pro Marko Neumann before taking down the €5,300 tournament. It’s by far his biggest live cash and more than double his lifetime tournament winnings to date.

Zoltan Gal Wins Eureka Poker Tour 2014

Zoltan Gal from Hungary has won the first ever Eureka Poker Tour event held in Vienna for €208,655. The 27-year-old was the last man standing in the record-breaking event after beating Austria's Andreas Freund heads up. The pair cut a deal with €10k, the trophy and the title left to play for. Gal eventually grabbed it all meaning he scored a €208,655 payday while Freund gained a €174,655 reward. It has been record-breaking event back-to-back beating Prague's December stop by 117 players with 1,432-player field

Phil Ivey is Not Broke: Participates in Rare Interview (Video)

Phil Ivey dismissed rumors being spread by fellow poker pro Dan Bilzerian that he is broke.

"People can say what they're going to say… I don't really feed into that. His opinion is his opinion… He really doesn't know my financial status,” Ivey said during a rare interview conducted by Bluff Europe.

“Phil Ivey just went broke,” Bilzerian told CardPlayer.com in a January interview.

Terry Rings Gets Redemption, $111K on Heartland Poker Tour

St. Louis, Missouri - Terry Ring of Durant, Iowa had some unfinished business on HPT.  He was the runner-up at HPT’s Iowa stop last fall at Prairie Meadows Racetrack Casino Hotel. “I’d like to get a first place with HPT,” he said.  After flopping a pair in a marathon heads up battle, he got what he came for at River City Casino Hotel.  Ring walked away a champion with $111,968.

Milner Prevails Over 731 Entrants in Black Hawk

Black Hawk, CO - Doug Milner’s poker accomplishments pale in comparison to many in HPT’s field of 731 at Golden Gates Casino & Poker Parlour, including world champion Greg “Fossilman” Raymer, Bryan Devonshire, and Dan O’Brien. The 73-year-old from Salt Lake City had just two career cashes totaling $1300.  He last cashed three years ago for $376.  Although he advanced to Day 2 at Golden Gates on Sunday, he had a lackluster stack towards the bottom of the chip counts.

Poker Pro Phil Galfond: ‘Old School vs. New School’

Poker pro Phil Galfond has written an excellent article on the “old school vs. new school” in the poker player world.

The topic up for discussion is, more or less, the way that poker players carry themselves and the effect it has on the game as a whole- a very important discussion to have, he noted.

Galfond contends that the old school players believe that today’s younger pros carry themselves in a way "that isn’t good for the games or for the general popularity of poker".

Joe Nguyen Prevails at Club One Final Table

Fresno, California – As Heartland Poker Tour’s latest nationally-televised event wrapped up at Club One Casino, telephone repairman Joe Nguyen had just one more opponent to get through on his way to an HPT championship: Club One’s Director of Business Development, Su Kim. She played the event on her home turf and advanced to the Final Table where she survived four all-in situations, catching a card on the river three of those times.  Nguyen, who had a four- to-one chip lead on Kim heads up, locked up the championship in just two hands.

Phil Ivey Wins $4.2 Mil At Aussie Millions Event: His Biggest Take Ever

Poker pro Phil Ivey just got a whole lot richer Monday.

Already one of poker’s biggest money earners of all time, Ivey added another $4.2 million to his treasure chest at this week’s Aussie Millions $250,000 Challenge.

This was Ivey’s single biggest cash ever.

Ivey entered Day 2 of the event with the seventh largest stack at 622,000 and would eventually finish off fellow poker pro Isaac Haxton by day's end.

No need to shed any tears for Haxton however as he walked away with a cool $2,820,000.

The Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open will end a two-week run at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek on Tuesday, February 11, with the live-streamed final table of the $1 million guaranteed WPT Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open Championship. 

The tournament series featured the largest buy-ins and guarantees ever offered by the property and gave away over $2.3 million in prizes.
