Number of Firms Applying for Online Gambling License in NJ Up to 37

A total of 37 online gambling companies have applied to serve the Garden State and its nearly 9 million people.

The New Jersey state Gaming Enforcement Division says it received the applications by Monday's deadline for initial consideration, a major milestone in Atlantic City's development of online betting.

Revel Atlantic City Poker Room to Shut Down in Next Two Weeks

The financially strapped Revel Casino in Atlantic City is ready to close its poker room.

John Brennan of the Bergen Record tweeted Monday:

Sources: Revel AC poker room will close in 2 weeks. Canceling all tournaments. Bad beat jackpots to be paid.

The Revel Casino is expected to shut its poker room down on August 15 though the closure could actually happen sooner.

PokerStars Parent Company Files Motion to Dismiss Domain Case

PokerStars parent company, the Rational Group, has filed a motion to dismiss in a 2008 case brought by the commonwealth of Kentucky to seize 141 online gambling domains.

MicroMillions 5 Main Event Awards Record First Prize

Lithuanian player ‘stygher’ won the MicroMillions 5 $22 NL Hold’em Main Event yesterday, topping a field of 59,213 players to win the first prize of $160,726.14. It is the biggest individual prize for a MicroMillions champion, beating the previous record of $157,218.68, which was won by ‘SoyDelGlobo’ in the MicroMillions II Main Event.

‘Ray Donovan’ Producer Bryan Zuriff Pleads Guilty in Sports Betting Case

A Hollywood producer has pleaded guilty in New York for his role in a high-stakes sports betting business run by an organized-crime enterprise.

Bryan Zuriff is executive producer of the Showtime series Ray Donovan. He pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to accepting a financial instrument in connection with unlawful Internet gambling.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara (buh-RAH’-ruh) announced the plea Friday, saying Zuriff operated an illegal gambling enterprise in Los Angeles and helped run one in New York.

Online Gambling Firm Wants to Buy or Build Casino in Atlantic City

TRENTON, N.J. – (Associated Press) - An online gambling firm plans to buy or build a casino in Atlantic City to get a piece of the Internet wagering action planned to launch in the state this year, another sign of a revival of corporate interest in a city where gambling revenue has been falling since 2006.

MidOil USA managing partner Vincent Crandon said Friday that he plans to announce around Labor Day whether his investment firm and Web gambling company 2UP Gaming will be buying or building.

Facebook is Bringing Social Gambling to Italy, Spain

Facebook is expanding its real money online social gambling platform to Italy and Spain.

After initial trials in the United Kingdom utilizing the bwin.party network, Facebook will expand the offering to three countries, both of which have been accommodating to real money Web gambling.

Sean Ryan, head of partnerships of the social network, confirmed the news during the World Gaming Executive Summit in Barcelona.

South Point Poker to Rebrand as Real Gaming

South Point Poker, which one promised to be the first real money online poker site regulated in the US, will be changing its name.

The site will be rebranded as “Real Gaming” in order to reflect its expanded variety of online games beyond the scope of poker.

Real Gaming will be run by the folks who own the popular South Point Casino and Hotel located off the Las Vegas Strip.  They were among the first to receive a license from the Nevada Gaming Commission.

ESPN 2013 World Series of Poker Schedule Released

ESPN has unveiled its 2013 World Series of Poker broadcast schedule, which kicked off Tuesday night (July 23).

ESPN’s coverage will be broadcast Tuesday nights in two hour blocks from July 23 right through October 29.  Airings will start at 9 pm EST.

Norman Chad and Lon McEachern will call the action.

Four Arrested in Boise for Running illegal Poker Houses

BOISE, Idaho (Associated Press) — Boise police say they've flushed out an illegal gambling operation with the arrest of four people, including three from one family.

Timothy J. Lough and his wife, Jo Anne Lough, were arrested on misdemeanor gambling charges on Tuesday along with their son, Travis Jay Lough.

Also taken into custody was David Andrew Deboer.

The law enforcement agency in Idaho's capital city says it had gotten numerous calls pointing to a card house being run at a pair of locations just southwest of downtown.
