Iowa Moves Closer to Legalizing Fantasy Sports

Iowa, a state that has dabbled with the notion of legalizing online gambling including poker, has moved to legalize Fantasy sports.

While Fantasy Sports are exempt under federal legislation banning most other forms of online gambling, some individuals states have enacted their own laws that make engaging in such contests with cash prizes illegal, Iowa being one of them.

Minnesota Man Wins $300,000 Playing Daily Fantasy Sports

Jake Sanders, 38, of Edina, Minnesota, recently won $300,000 from the Daily Fantasy Sports site FanDuel.com.  And that was by finishing in 4th place!

Sanders was a qualifier for a FanDuel $2 million dollar event in Las Vegas during week 15 of the NFL season.  One player picking up yardage in the final seconds of a Jets/Titans game reduced Sanders earnings by $200,000 from $500,000.

Washington State Lawmakers Want to Legalize Fantasy Sports

Gambling 911 recently reported how fantasy sports leagues won't be offering contests for the Super Bowl, because the Federal law that permits fantasy sports wagering stipulates it must be based on multiple games, and the Super Bowl is just one game, thus ineligible for fantasy.

DraftKings 4th Quarter Revenue in 2014 Best Ever: From $2.5 Mil to $17 Mil

Daily Fantasy Sports second biggest site, DraftKings, reported a dramatic increase in revenues during the 2014 4th quarter.  Revenues came in at just over $17 million compared to $2.5 million during the same period last year.

The Super Bowl is annually the biggest betting day of the year for casino sportsbooks in Las Vegas.

More money will be wagered on that one game at the sportsbooks than any other sporting event of the year.
