Closing Arguments: Amber Heard Attorney Calls Johnny Depp "a Monster": His Attorney Calls Heard "Cruel" - Friday's closing arguments had attorneys for both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard on the attack.

Depp filed the slander suit after Heard published an opt-ed accusing him of abuse, though not by name.  She has countersued claiming the legal action has resulted in lost acting gigs. A witness involved with the upcoming "Aquaman" film did claim that a decision to reduce Heard's role came long before any suit was filed however.

The 36-year-old actress accused Depp of "profound cruelty".

"You either believe all of it, or none of it," Depp's attorney, Camille Vasquez, said of Heard's allegations of abuse against Depp, 58. "Either she's a victim of truly horrific abuse or she's a woman who's willing to say absolutely anything."

Heard's attorney Ben Rottenborn countered in his closing remarks: "If he abused her one time, Amber wins," and accused Depp of having "almost all of" his witnesses on his payroll.

"Let's see the monster. Let's see the monster in the flesh," Rottenborn added, before playing the video of Depp slamming cabinets in the former couple's kitchen.

Betting on the Depp-Heard trial has become big business for the books, though only limited wagering opportunities are being offered.

Goodfellas Star Ray Liotta Dead at 67 - Ray Liotta, the actor best known for playing mobster Henry Hill in “Goodfellas” and baseball player Shoeless Joe Jackson in “Field of Dreams,” has died. He was 67.

An official at the Dominican Republic’s National Forensic Science Institute who was not authorized to speak to the media confirmed the death of Ray Liotta and said his body was taken to the Cristo Redentor morgue. The Hollywood Reporter and NBC News cited representatives for Liotta who said he died in his sleep Wednesday night. He was in the Dominican Republic to film a new movie.

"Goodfellas" is considered one of the best mob films ever made with Liotta playing a feature role.  In it Liotta starred as Henry Hill, an American mobster who was associated with the Lucchese crime family of New York City from 1955 until 1980.  He would later become a government informant. Hill testified against his former Mafia associates, resulting in fifty convictions and subsequently entered the Witness Protection Program, but was removed from the program in the early 1990s.

Amber Heard admitted to Striking Depp multiple times during fights: ‘I had to use my body to defend myself’.

    From Rolling Stone:

Depp’s attorney, Camille Vasquez, set the tone from the jump as she attempted to frame Heard as the physically aggressive party in the marriage, playing numerous recordings that appeared to demonstrate Heard taunting Depp’s age and career, calling him a “sellout.” Another recording was referenced in which Heard said that she hopes his son Jack’s new stepfather can teach him how to be a man, as Depp cannot.  “You’re a joke,” she said in one recording, laughing as she sarcastically added, “If only I could be like you."

  • Jimbo Fisher Responds to ‘Narcissist’ Nick Saban: ‘We’re Done’ - Another big fight brewing, this time between two big name College Football head coaches.  After Alabama coach Nick Saban levied accusations that Texas A&M "bought" its top-ranked football recruiting class, Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher fired back at his former boss with a rant that will go down in college football history.  Not surprisingly, Alabama is the favorite to win the 2023 College Football Playoff Championship while Texas A&M has the 5th shortest odds of 20-1.  Aside from the Tide, only Georgia, Ohio State and Clemson have shorter odds.
  • Tyson Fury Attempts To Kick Cabbie's Car ... After Apparent Tiff With Driver In France -  TMZ reports that the newly retired fighter had an apparent altercation with a cabbie.  The incident went down sometime Wednesday ... when Fury seemed to be roaming the streets of Cannes after having just a little too much to drink, according to TMZ.  After the driver pulled away from Fury and his entourage -- that's when the 33-year-old fighter attempted to stick his boot into the car's bumper.  Fortunately for us, it was all caught on video. Fury claims to have retired but we will believe it when we see it.  Eddie Hearn believes Fury will likely pursue the winner of Anthony Joshua's rematch with Oleksandr Usyk later this year.  Hearn on Thursday questioned why Fury has been given extra time to decide his future by the WBC if he has already confirmed his retirement

"I don't know why he needs time, he's retired," Hearn told Boxing Social. "But no, look, we all know he's not retiring.

BetOnline was currently offering exhibition odds on Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou with Fury a huge -900 favorite and Ngannou at +500.

  • Amber Heard's Sister Testifies She Ssaw Johnny Depp Abuse Her Sister - Nothing moved the needle as far as the odds were concerned on Wednesday and despite the damning testimony offered by Amber Heard's sister, Whitney Henriquez.  She testified that she had done cocaine with Depp, including just before one incident where she saw Depp throw a Red Bull can at his nurse, Debbie Lloyd, which Lloyd denied in her testimony.  Henriquez claimed Depp even attacked her.

"He comes up behind me, strikes me in the back. I hear Amber shout don't hit my f****** sister. She smacks him, lands one," Henriquez said. "By that time Johnny had already grabbed Amber by the hair with one hand and was whacking her repeatedly in the face with the other."

Heard's sister also testified on Wednesday that Depp made a joke about microwaving his ex-wife's dog during their relationship.

The Twitterverse soon got to work showing how Henriquez was allegedly beaten up by her own city courtesy of a video shown during a prior UK libel case.

Box Office: ‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’ Delivers $1.1M in Thursday Previews - Downton Abbey: A New Era registered a promising $1.1 million in Thursday in its North American box office run of 3,300 theatres.  The film has been heavily advertised over the airwaves.

The first installment of Downton Abbey earned $1.5 million in previews and went on to score a record-breaking $31 million domestic opening for specialty distributor Focus Features.  Not surprisingly, that 2019 big-screen adaptation of Julian Fellowes’ hit British TV series was fueled by older moviegoers.

Early audience reviews via Rotten Tomatoes has ‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’ receiving a strong 98% score.  The more finicky film critics have generated a still respectable 84% score.

The latest installment is seen as a test as to whether those 45 and up are ready to return to the theatres en masse.  Positive box office numbers might also nudge bookmakers to get back into the film game.

Oddsmakers have mostly stopped taking bets on box office numbers since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic with exceptions being more superhero oriented and anticipated blockbuster productions.

Ex-shrink: Johnny Depp Expressed 'Frustration' with 'Pain in the Ass' Amber Heard During Marriage - Johnny Depp’s former psychiatrist, Dr. Alan Blaustein, testified Thursday that the actor expressed “frustration” with Amber Heard during their marriage.  He said that Depp compared her to his abusive mother and even called her a “pain in the ass.”

“He used drugs to cope with psychic wounds,” Blaustein said, according to a recording of his testimony played in court.

According to a message sent to the doctor, Depp told Heard, “You’re being my mother and psychotic sister.” The actor has previously testified that his mom, Betty Sue Palmer, physically and psychologically abused him when he was growing up.

“[Their relationship was] a lot of love, a lot of disappointment, a lot of fear,” he said.

SpaceSEX: A Bad Week for Musk - Tesla's stock is down 44.6% on the year, there are accusations of sexual harassment and the much ballyhood Twitter acquisition is looking more and more like it is going to go bust.  It would be an understatement to say that the world's richest man, Elon Musk, has been having a very bad week.

Shares of the electric car company, which is where Musk’s derives much of his wealth, sank more than 10 percent during trading Friday.  It even dropped at one point to around $636 per share. That’s about a 35 percent drop from its price on the day Musk’s deal to buy Twitter was announced.  It has been reported that Musk has taken out extensive personal loans that are heavily tied to the value of Tesla’s stock.

Meanwhile, a former flight attendant for Musk's SpaceX is claiming sexual harassment.  Musk actually laughed off the allegations and referred to the scandal as Elongate, a name he concocted back in March.

Kate McKinnon Bids Farewell in Alien Cold Opener - One of SNL's greatest talents has boarded the mother ship permanently.  It was pretty much assumed that Kate McKinnon was leaving the show after a long stint.  After showcasing her experience, McKinnon as Ms. Rafferty headed off into space, after one last goodbye. Just yesterday, a report surfaced that Pete Davidson would be leaving after this season.  We had McKinnon at 2-1 odds to be the next cast member to depart.  But now it looks like she's leaving before Pete.....we are assuming at least.....well, actually, Pete confirmed his departure earlier today.

Aidy Bryant and Kyle Mooney are reportedly leaving as well.

American Idol Long Shot Wins - Kentucky construction worker Noah Thompson won this season's installment of American Idol and this was a bit of a surprise as Leah Marlene was expected to win as the near EVEN odds favorite.  Noah Thompson paid 2-1 odds. The three-hour finale started with the top three performing songs by the ultimate all-American rock ‘n’ roll idol, Bruce Springsteen.

Thompson is now the fourth consecutive male “Idol” champion who is also a country singer, following Trent Harmon (Season 15), Laine Hardy (Season 17) and Chayce Beckham (Season 19). The only female country singer winner in “Idol” history is Carrie Underwood, who was named the winner in Season 4 nearly two decades ago.

Kate Moss to Testify in Johnny Depp, Amber Heard Trial Wednesday - Mark ma·ña·na on your calendars.  It is going to be YUGE.

Marquee Hollywood star Kate Moss is expected to testify in the slander case Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard.

The 48-year-old fashion model will testify via video link on Wednesday in the Fairfax, Virginia, courtroom, sources with knowledge said.

Depp’s lawyers were spotted fist-pumping a few weeks back when Heard, 36, suddenly brought up Moss during her testimony, according to the New York Post.

From the Post:

Legal experts explained at the time that Heard mentioning Moss on the stand could give her ex-husband’s team the chance to dispel a rumor that he pushed the  supermodel down a flight of stairs when the two dated in the 1990s.

“That’s one mistake that [Heard] made, was bringing up Kate Moss, which potentially opened the door to [Depp’s team] bringing [Moss] on as an impeachment witness” — and Moss “saying ‘This never happened,’” said California entertainment lawyer Mitra Ahouraian.

A source close to Depp told The Post at the time: “Amber mentioned an ex of Johnny’s that clearly she felt was not supportive of him, which couldn’t be further from the truth.”

Don't get too enthralled by this trial, it's expected to end this week.

Judge Denies Johnny Depp's Bid to Dismiss Amber Heard's $100 Million Countersuit - Hollywood actor Johnny Depp filed a lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard.  She wrote a 2018 Washington Post op-ed alleging domestic abuse (though she did not refer to Depp by name).  Heard has filed a $100 million countersuit that Depp's legal team is seeking to have thrown out.

Heard claims that her role in the upcoming Aquaman film was drastically reduced due to the ongoing legal dispute with Depp. Walter Hamada, president of DC Comics based film productions for Warner Brothers, testified in a video deposition on Heard’s role and claimed that decision was made early on in the script development to reduce her role, having nothing to do with the legal saga.

Another witness appearing, Dr. David Kulber.  He is the plastic surgeon who specializes in hand surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center and the doctor who treated Depp’s hand injury in 2015. Depp previously testified that in 2015, Heard threw a bottle of vodka at him and severed his finger.
