UltimatePoker CEO Tom Breitling: Size Does Matter

UltimatePoker CEO Tom Breiting sat down to discuss the size of the online gambling market in a very small regulated portion of the United States.

“With the creation of a new industry, there are a lot of unknowns,” Breitling says.  “And our company was pushed off balanced just a little bit (with emphasis) for revenue projections.”

Those projections for the Nevada market, where UltimateBet leads and is only one of two sites online, was for $80 million.  In New Jersey, estimates were in the $250 million to $1.2 billion range.

Americas Cardroom Stops Serving New Jersey, Delaware and Nevada Markets

Americas Cardroom today announced a move to serve players only in markets without state-licensed poker sites. Journalist and corruption in sport expert Declan Hill has warned of a “tsunami of corruption” about to hit Australian sport.

He uttered the dire warning while addressing the second Victoria Police Integrity in Sport Symposium in Melbourne.

"The match fixing linked to the Asian gambling networks have destroyed most Asian sports.

"The sports fans of Asia, the gambling people, the fixers of Asia are now going to turn their attention to Australia."

Man Who Beheaded Exotic Bird at Flamingo Casino in Las Vegas Gets Probation

A University of California, Berkley law school graduate has been sentenced to probation after beheading an exotic bird at a Las Vegas casino in 2012.

Justin Teixeira received the four years of following a prison boot camp program.

His sentence also includes 16 hours a month of unpaid work at an animal shelter.

Teixeira pleaded guilty to beheading a rare 14-year-old helmeted guinea fowl while at the Flamingo’s Wildlife Habitat.

Alcohol was involved in the crime.

Variety Magazine reported Monday that poker pro Mike “The Mouth” Matusow’s life would be made into a film.

The project is currently in development as a biopic by 1984 Professional Defense Contractors.

Matusow is one of the most colorful players in the game having had bouts with drug addiction, sex, promiscuity and other depravities we can’t get into on this family website.  

Matusow has also spent time in jail and once attempted suicide.

Paddy Power CEO to Step Down Amidst Two Worst Weekends Ever in Football

Paddy Power, the United Kingdom’s third largest bookmaker, suffered two of its worst weekends in football on record this year.  The company’s stock has dropped 4% and CEO Patrick Kennedy has announced his departure in 2015.  Kennedy has been CEO of Paddy Power since 2006 with the betting firm enjoying huge success throughout much of his tenure.

High-roller Zhao Li is now being sued by the casino after Crown claims he has either refused or otherwise forgot to pay them back.

Danish Poker Sensation Gus Hansen Has Lost Nearly $18 Mil at Full Tilt Poker

HighStakesDB.com released a report that Danish poker pro Gus Hansen has lost $17.8 million just playing at Full Tilt Poker, making him one of the biggest all-time losers on that site.

While Hansen first started playing at Full Tilt Poker approximately ten years ago, most of his losses have occurred over the past year-and-a-half.

He is down nearly $3 million this year alone.  Last year he dropped nearly $8 million.

Two Billionaires Place Bets on Japan Casino Sector

OSAKA/TOKYO (Reuters) - Two US billionaires are betting on rival cities, Tokyo and Osaka, to be the first in Japan to open casino resorts - once the government gives the go-ahead to legalize gambling.

Japan is one of the world's last untapped gaming markets and could become the third largest gambling destination after Macau and the United States, with annual revenue of over $40 billion, according to broker CLSA.

NRL Investigating Top Official Over Ryan Tandy Gambling Scandal

(Associated Press) - The NRL is reportedly investigating allegations its head of football, Todd Greenberg, had knowledge of front-rower Ryan Tandy's gambling on rugby league games while he was chief executive of Canterbury but turned a blind eye to it.

Fairfax Media reports the claims Greenberg was given evidence of Tandy betting on league games but took no action have prompted NRL chief executive Dave Smith to request an investigation.

Bookmaker Stan James Could be Charged With Crime Over Defacing of Heritage Site

The popular British bookmaker Stan James was reported to authorities for stenciled graffiti advertising the betting firm was found on the Roman walls of Chester, a Heritage site that has existed since 40 AD.

The company added the graffiti ahead of this weekend’s Chester Horse Racing Festival.  The Chester council has accused Stan James of a “Heritage Crime”.

Another Man Tied to Russian-Mob Connected Gambling Ring Sentenced

NEW YORK — (Associated Press) - A man who ran an illegal sports gambling operation with a Manhattan art gallery owner has been sentenced to six months in prison.

Illya Trincher was ordered to forfeit $6.4 million in illegal profits. The 28-year-old also ordered to six months of house arrest after completing his prison sentence.

The scheme catered to billionaires in New York and Hollywood.

Last week, his father, Adam Trincher, was sentenced to a five-year sentence in a related scheme.

The Manhattan dealer, Hillel Nahmad was sentenced to one year in prison.

High Stakes Poker Pro, Olympian in DUI Accident: Totals Car

A professional high stakes poker player from Norway has apologized for crashing his car and leaving the scene of the accident last week.

Petter Northug was intoxicated at the time he totaled his Audi A7.

Northug may be better known as an Olympic medalist skier.  He initially denied being the driver.  The 28-year-old won two gold medals at the Vancouver Winter Games in 2010. 

"Petter Northug has confirmed to the police in Trondheim that it was he who drove the car that was involved in an accident on Sunday morning," his manager Are Soerum Langaas said on Sunday.

Boston Will Not Become a ‘Host Community’ for Neighboring Casino Projects

BOSTON (Associated Press) — Boston Mayor Martin Walsh has lost a bid to give city residents a chance to vote on casinos proposed for neighboring Everett and Revere.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission agreed in principle Thursday that Boston should not be designated a "host community" for either of the casino projects, which are vying to win the sole gambling license in the state's eastern region.

The status would have mandated voter referendums from neighborhoods impacted by Mohegan Sun's proposal for Revere and Wynn's proposal for Everett.

Poll Finds Americans Favor Legalized Marijuana Over Online Gambling

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (Associated Press) — Americans are split over whether marijuana should be legalized for recreational use, according to a poll released Thursday. But the same poll finds them solidly opposed to online gambling.

The Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind poll finds that 50 percent of Americans favor legalizing marijuana use, while 27 percent support legalizing Internet gambling in the 47 states that don't allow it.

Caesars Posts Larger Than Anticipated Loss in 1st Quarter

(Associated Press)  - Caesars Entertainment on Wednesday reported a wider first-quarter loss as gambling revenue fell and the company's casinos outside of Las Vegas faced stiffer competition and bad weather.

The Las Vegas-based company, which runs the Caesars, Harrah's, and Horseshoe brands, has struggled since the recession, and has not posted a profit since 2009. It's hobbled by its lack of a presence in the Chinese gambling enclave of Macau, which has been the center of the gambling world for years.
