High Stakes Poker Pro, Olympian in DUI Accident: Totals Car

A professional high stakes poker player from Norway has apologized for crashing his car and leaving the scene of the accident last week.

Petter Northug was intoxicated at the time he totaled his Audi A7.

Northug may be better known as an Olympic medalist skier.  He initially denied being the driver.  The 28-year-old won two gold medals at the Vancouver Winter Games in 2010.

"Petter Northug has confirmed to the police in Trondheim that it was he who drove the car that was involved in an accident on Sunday morning," his manager Are Soerum Langaas said on Sunday.

"Northug also explained that he was under the influence of alcohol when the accident happened," he said, adding that the athlete deeply regretted the incident.

"I have openly told police about what happened and I am prepared to take the punishment for my actions," Northug said.

He participated in this year’s Winter Olympics in Sochi but left empty-handed.
