Internet Gambling, Casino Expansion a Tough Sell in Illinois: Quinn Skeptical

CHICAGO — (Associated Press) - Lawmakers pushing to expand gambling in Illinois hope the third time is a charm with a more finely tuned proposal that could make Illinois the fourth state to allow Internet gaming.

The latest proposal includes some familiar ideas: five new casinos, including one in Chicago and Rockford; thousands of slot machines, including at Chicago’s two airports. But it also includes Internet gambling, which would allow Illinois residents to play games like black jack on their computers or smart phones.

Casino Mogul Sheldon Adelson Testimony to be Streamed Live This Week

Courtroom View Network is expected to receive exclusive ability tomorrow to provide live streaming coverage in the trial against Las Vegas Sands Corp.  Renowned liberal icon, Alan Dershowitz, and former lawyer for OJ  Simpson appeared in court Friday to argue against the motion to allow cameras in the courtroom.  Dershowitz argued against cameras - the liberal icon is representing the interests of ardent conservative billionaire Adelson.

Rocco Palumbo Wins WPT Venice Grand 2013: Mike Sexton Finishes Third

Italian poker player Rocco Palumbo has won the WPT Venice Grand 2013, bringing is live tournament earnings up to just over $1 million.

Palumbo did have three small cashes so far this year leading up to this event.  He did win $464,464 and a World Series of Poker bracelet last summer.

Noted poker player and personality Mike Sexton won a cool $69,723, finishing 3rd at the WPT Venice Grand.

In all, 173 players took part in this year’s event.

Nevada Supreme Court Rules Against Phil Ivey’s Wife in Divorce Suit

The Nevada Supreme Court Friday ruled against a petition filed by poker pro Phil Ivey’s ex wife, Luciaetta Ivey, claiming she was treated unfairly in their 2009 divorce case.

Delaware Park's Ironman Poker Challenge Breaks World Record

This week’s Delaware Park’s Ironman Poker Challenge broke the Guinness record for longest consecutive tournament at 36 hours, 34 minutes and 11 seconds.

Ultimately it was Czech Republic player Peter Konas who topped the field to scoop the $27,160 first place prize.  He also now holds the prestigious Iron Man of Poker title.

Phil Ivey Wins $736,844 on Full Tilt Poker in 48 Hours: Dissed by SallyWoo

One of the most recognized names in poker, Phil Ivey, managed to win $738,844 in just under 48 hours at Full Tilt Poker beginning Wednesday of this week.

Ivey plays under the handle “Polarizing”.

Among Ivey’s victims:  Viktor “Isildur1” Blom and online player NiklasReinecker.  Ivey played mostly short sessions.

He continued his winning ways on Thursday, March 28, adding $492,700 to his bankroll.

FLO8 specialist, SallyWoo, refused his action, and it was probably for the best.

2013 World Poker Tour Venice Grand Prix Day 2: Ludovic Lacay Leads

The 2013 World Poker Tour Venice Grand Prix Day 2 had Ludovic Lacay the chip leader. 

While not necessarily a familiar name to many in the poker community, the French pro has won just shy of $3 million in live tournaments to date. 

His most recent big pay day was in October at the PokerStars.com EPT San Remo Main Event, which he won.  His reward was a cool $1 million and some change.

Gutshot Poker Reopens but Existing Players Must Activate Accounts Now

Gutshot Poker has reopened its doors and will now operate on three different online poker networks including Revolution, OnGame and Play2B.

The site shut down recently with players unable to claim their funds.  The new management will apparently make customers jump through hoops in order to re-activate their accounts.

PartyPoker PokerFest 2013 Schedule Unveiled With 64 Events: Online Poker Qualifiers

The PartyPoker PokerFest 2013 will be going off April 21 through May 5 featuring 64 great events.  Those interested can qualify online here.

Most of the events will feature Hold’em poker with only a handful reserved for Omaha. Buy-ins start at $0.50 and go up to $1,060.  There is a $1 million guaranteed prize pool.

Poker Pro Billy Baxter Wins $400k Tiger Woods Bet

Seven-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Billy Baxter has won $400,000 on a bet that Tiger Woods would once again regain the number one golf ranking in the world.

Woods lost his number one standing in October 2000 following a series of highly publicized scandals involving extramarital affairs.

The Poker TDA Summit to Take Place June 26, 27 2013

The Poker Tournament Directors’ Association (TDA) will hold it’s bi-annual Summit on June 26 & 27th, 2013, at the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Hundreds of Poker Tournament Directors from all over the world will attend the Summit to debate and vote on proposed rules changes and amendments. Survey: New Jersey Residents Really, Really Want PokerStars

A recent survey conducted by Poker Players Alliance (PPA) makes it abundantly clear that residents of New Jersey want PokerStars to take over the troubled Atlantic Club Casino in Atlantic City.

998 members of the PPA who reside in the state were surveyed.

The American Gaming Association is attempting to keep PokerStars out of the state.

Illinois Governor Quinn Not Enthusiastic About Online Gambling in His State

As efforts are currently underway to legalize online gambling in Illinois, that state’s Governor doesn’t seem likely to sign such a measure into law any time soon.

Governor Pat Quinn, who has rejected several previous plans for gambling expansion in the state, spoke to WUIS 91.9 Radio on Monday.
