U.S. Hedge Fund Builds Stake in Greek Gambling Monopoly

(Reuters) - U.S. hedge fund Baupost Group has a 5.2 percent stake in Greek gambling firm OPAP, a regulatory filing showed on Tuesday, signaling foreign interest in the country's gambling monopoly before its privatization.

Boston-based Baupost Group, run by money manager Seth Klarman, unveiled the position after it exceeded a 5 percent reporting threshold under Greek law, OPAP said in the filing.

Baupost is the third investment fund holding a big stake in OPAP, which has a market value of 2.05 billion euros ($2.76 billion) on the Athens Stock Exchange.

Paddy Power Projects Slot Machine on Milan Stock Exchange

Atlantic City Casino Billionaire Owner Tilman Fertitta Fined for Gambling

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. –  (Associated Press) - The Texas billionaire who owns Golden Nugget Atlantic City casino has agreed to pay a $15,000 fine.

New Jersey regulators cited Tilman Fertitta for playing blackjack at two Atlantic City casinos last year. That violates a law that bars holders of a key casino employee license from gambling in Atlantic City.

Golden Nugget general manager Tom Pohlman tells the Press of Atlantic City Fertitta feels bad because he didn't know about the ban. Pohlman says Fertitta can gamble in Nevada except at his own casino.

Mississippi Exploring Legalized Online Gambling Once Again

One of the least likely states, conservative Mississippi, is once again exploring options to legalize online gambling.

Mississippi considered seriously flawed legislation last year that called for – among other things – allowing cash and credit as deposits with little oversight and the confiscation of inactive funds by the state. 

An almost identical bill is being re-introduced by state Rep. Bobby Moak.  He once again asserts that legalized online gambling in the state would result in countless numbers of jobs created.

Judge Rejects Lawsuit in Opposition to Expanding Gambling in Maryland

ANNAPOLIS, Md.— (Associated Press) - A Maryland judge has rejected a lawsuit seeking to overturn gambling expansion in Maryland.

Anne Arundel County Circuit Judge Ronald Silkworth released his decision on Tuesday.

Opponents to the ballot question to allow table games like blackjack and a casino in Prince George’s County contended that a majority of registered voters in the state would need to approve the proposal, not just a majority of people who voted on the ballot question in November.

New York State Governor Cuomo Likely to Discuss Gambling Expansion

ALBANY, N.Y. (Associated Press) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo is set to detail his budget proposals for the state's 2013-2014 fiscal year beginning April 1.

He's expected to propose about $132 billion in spending and attack a deficit of at least $1 billion as the state deals with the aftermath of superstorm Sandy and tax collections lagging behind projections.

Interstate Online Poker in the US: Nevada Governor Sandoval’s Plea
