Poker Player Known as ‘The Don’ Convicted for $1.2 Billion UK Property Fraud
A Greek businessman, known as ‘The Don’ on the international poker circuit, has been convicted for a $1.2 billion United Kingdom property fraud. Those convictions include two counts of conspiracy to defraud.
Achilleas Kallakis, 44, and co-conspirator Alexander M. Williams, also 44, defrauded banks to borrow 740 million pounds ($1.18 billion) and acquire 16 properties, the U.K. Serious Fraud Office said in a statement.
Rafi Ashkenazi Appointed CEO of PokerStars Parent Company The Rational Group

Website Claims GTech, Lottomatica Group Caught ‘Rigging’ Online Casino Games
GTech, a subsidiary of Lottomatica Group, was reportedly caught rigging two online casino games, according to the website 4Flush.com. GTech’s Lottomatica last week received a recommendation for approval for an online gambling license in the state of Nevada.
The alleged rigged games were Real Deal and Hi/Lo Gambler, utilizing coding created by Realistic Games then recoded by GTech.

11 Companies Vying for Massachusetts Gambling Establishments
BOSTON (Associated Press) -- Eleven firms hoping to compete for licenses for resort casinos or a slots parlor filed initial applications and non-refundable $400,000 application fees before a Tuesday deadline, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission announced.
Four groups waited until the final day to submit applications, joining seven others that had previously filed.
A surprise last-minute entry was PPE Casino Resorts, affiliated with the principals of Baltimore-based Cordish Cos. The firm had not publicly expressed interest in Massachusetts before.
PokerStars One Step Closer to Buying Atlantic City Casino
ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey — (Associated Press) - An Internet gambling company wants to buy Atlantic City's Atlantic Club, and says it's ready to pump money into the brick-and-mortar casino to help prop up the seaside gambling resort.
Rational Group US Holdings, the parent company of PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, is asking New Jersey casino regulators for permission to buy the Atlantic Club for an undisclosed amount.
The proposed deal will be scrutinized closely.

Sen. Garrett Richter, a Naples Republican, said the objective over the next two years will be to determine how gambling regulations and revenues benefit Floridians before changes are made.
Richter said that in the past, gambling legislation was passed without knowing the effect it would have.

Harry Reid Denies Attempting to Derail Investigation of Online Gambling Figure
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid denied any involvement in an alleged effort to help derail a federal investigation into Jeremy Johnson’s Utah businesses. Each of these businesses were later named in an indictment filed April 15, 2011, a day commonly known within the Web poker community as “Black Friday”.
Dimitar Danchev Wins $1,859,000 at 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure
EPT Sanremo runner-up Dimitar Danchev has become the first Bulgarian to win a major poker tournament after taking down the 2013 PCA Main Event for $1,859,000.
The 26-year-old, who was already top of the Bulgarian all-time money list, won his seat to the $10,000 event in a $700 qualifier on PokerStars. He has been playing poker professionally for around three years but first came to prominence when he was runner-up at the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Sanremo tournament in 2011, where he earned €600,000.
