Poker Icon Matt Savage Hospitalized: Nearly Crippled by Waterslide Head Injury

Poker personality Matt Savage is hoping to avoid paralysis by undergoing urgent cervical stenosis surgery Wednesday morning.

Savage suffered hit his head on a waterslide and for the past few weeks he started to feel pain in his back and chest along with numbness in his arm, according to his Facebook page.

Fashion Empire Versace Enters Macau Gambling Industry

One doesn’t typically associate the name Versace with casino gambling, but the fashion house has announced its plans to build a luxury hotel at a casino resort in the Asian gambling Mecca of Macau.

In a joint statement with local casinos operator SJM Holdings Ltd, Versace said the five-star Palazzo Versace hotel will be part of a resort SJM is building in the former Portuguese colony's Las Vegas-style Cotai strip.

Bahrain-Based Investcorp Sells Majority Share in Online Payment Processing Co Skrill

(Reuters) - Bahrain-based Investcorp said on Monday it agreed to sell a majority stake in British online payments services firm Skrill Group to private equity group CVC Capital Partners for 600 million euros ($800 million).As part of the deal Investcorp will keep an approximate 25 percent stake in the company, sources said. It will also retain a seat on Skrill's board, the company said in a statement.

Rangers Midfielder Ian Black Charged With Gambling Offences

LONDON (Reuters) - Rangers midfielder Ian Black has been charged with betting offences by the Scottish FA, the national governing body said on Monday.

A statement on the SFA website said the player had been issued with a notice of complaint for betting against his "then-registered club" on three occasions.

Black is a former Hearts and Inverness Caledonian Thistle player who joined Rangers, currently in the Scottish third tier, in July 2012.

InsuredPlay.com to Shut Down

An all-in equity insurance product for online cash games, InsuredPlay.com, will no longer be available as the site is slated to shut down after only 16 months in business.

All player balances remain safe, and everyone will be repaid their balances in full, the company assures but withdrawal requests must take place by September 30.

A statement from the site claimed that “a number of difficulties that we have not been able to overcome” have led to the shutdown.

Virginia Illegal Poker Game Raided

NORFOLK, Va. (Associated Press) — Four Norfolk men are charged with running an illegal high-stakes poker game out of a house in a subdivision along the Elizabeth River.

The Virginian-Pilot reports that the investigation started with a tip last December and led to arrests earlier this month.

According to police, the games of Texas Hold 'em were conducted three nights a week. The minimum buy-in was $100, and the operation raked in about $2,000 a night.

Man Who Helped Prosecutor Pursue Notorious OKC Bookie Gets 16 Months Prison

OKLAHOMA CITY — (Associated Press) - A Nevada bookie has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for his role in an illegal gambling operation.

Gary John Gibb of Reno was sentenced Thursday. He faced up to five years in prison but made a tearful plea for probation at Thursday's hearing.

The Oklahoman reported Gibb told U.S. District Judge David Russell that freedom is "so precious."

Romanian Princess Arrested in Cockfighting Bust

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (Associated Press) - A Romanian princess is apparently among several people who have been arrested in Eastern Oregon in connection with an alleged cockfighting ring.

Indictments unsealed Thursday in federal court in Portland charge 60-year-old Irina Walker and her husband, 67-year-old John Wesley Walker, with hosting cockfighting derbies and illegal gambling at their ranch outside the small Morrow County town of Irrigon.
