No Apology But Obama Encourages Visits to Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) - President Barack Obama says Las Vegas is a good place for a quick visit, but is offering no apologies for remarks some say damaged the city's convention business.

Obama said at Nellis Air Force Base on Wednesday that there's nothing like a quick, midweek trip to Vegas. He singled out the city's sights and sounds. The comment drew cheers and applause, and Obama grinned.

Kentucky Governor Wants Expanded Casino Gambling at Tracks

Officials from Churchill, Keeneland, Turfway Park and three smaller Kentucky tracks joined forces Wednesday in an effort to get state lawmakers support for approving expanded gambling. 

"For a $4 billion industry and 100,000 jobs on the line, the Kentucky legislature has got to step up and find a way to make this work for us and give us a chance to be competitive," Ellis Park owner Ron Geary said.

Obama Refuses to Meet With Nevada Governor

President Barack Obama has refused to meet with Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons and other key business leaders in the state according to news reports.

Governor Gibbons requested the meeting in a letter to President Obama so the President could address statements he made that were critical to Nevada and have caused economic damage to convention business and tourism business, according to Action News 13 out of Las Vegas.
