Phil Hellmuth on Global Poker Index: ‘Very Flawed’
One of the best poker players on the circuit today and the WSOP record bracelet holder Phil Hellmuth tweeted Monday that the much ballyhooed Global Poker Index (GPI) is not all that it’s cracked up to be.
He tweeted:
The GPI is very flawed. I cannot respect a points award system that counts $100,000 high rollers. Poker awards need to be egalitarian.
And by “egalitarian”, Hellmuth means that the GPI needs to live by the principle that all poker players are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities.
The head of the GPI, Alexandre Dreyfuss, responded by tweeting back to Hellmuth simply that “poker is flawed”.
Hellmuth currently ranks 149th on the index of 300 players. He has cashed out $4 million from two single events, finishing 4th in the $1m buy-in Big One for One Drop ($2.66m) from two years ago and his win in the 2012 WSOPE Main Event ($1.33m).
