Federal Online Poker Measure Could be Voted on This Month

It’s not dead yet, so says Texas Republican Congressman Joe Barton.  A measure to legalize online poker federally in the US could be voted on this month (July 2012).

3180 Entries at 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event Thus Far: Over 6000 Total Expected

Day 1a of the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event saw 1066 entries.  This was followed by 2114 for Day 1b, bringing the total thus far to 3180.  Day 1c – the final day in which to enter – typically sees the largest pool of players with organizers anticipating double the current number of entries.

Full Tilt Poker Disgraced CEO Raymond Bitar Must Remain in Prison

Following his arrest this past week, Full Tilt Poker’s CEO Raymond Bitar was unable to make the bail term requirement of $2.4 million.

Over the weekend, things suddenly changed.  It now appears as if Bitar will remain in prison for the foreseeable future.   The $2.4 million bail deal will no longer be in effect.

WSOP National Championship 2012 Final Table

WSOP 2012 Main Event Kicks Off – Day 1a

The World Series of Poker 2012 got into gear on Saturday with 1066 confirmed entries for Day 1a.  Typically this is the slowest of the three signup days.

Among the notable names we found professional hockey player Roberto Luongo, Mike Sexton, Eric Baldwin, Barry Shulman along with his wife Allyn Jaffrey Shulman, Ivan Demidov, Allen Cunningham, Tatjana Pasalic, Mike Matusow, Erica Schoenberg, Lock Poker Pro Matt Stout, Tommy Vedes, last year’s Main Event winner Pius Heinz, David Williams, Joe Hachem (who was already eliminated at press time) and Kathy Liebert.

5050 Poker Players to Just Get 15 Percent Back, If That

Following the abrupt closure of 5050Poker last month, the shuttered online poker company has revealed that affected customers will only be entitled to 15 percent of their funds back, and they’ll be lucky to even get that.

Congressman John Tierney Vows to Stay in Race Following Gambling Allegations

Massachusetts Congressman John Tierney has said he will stay in the race to hold his House seat despite allegations he knew of an “illegal” offshore wagering site that employed his wife Patrice.

Tierney’s wife served as an accountant for her brothers betting company based out of Antigua.

Poker Scam Unravels in Ontario: Many Victims Likely Have Not Come Forward

A 64-year-old British Columbia man has been arrested outside of Toronto, Canada for his role in allegedly perpetrating an elaborate “poker scam”.  Victims are believed to be spread across the country, mostly in Ontario and British Columbia.

Peter Eastgate 4th Place Finish at WSOP Event 56 Lands Him 14 on Poker All Time Money List

2008 World Series of Poker Main Event winner Peter Eastgate leapfrogged over the 2012 WSOP Main Event winner, Jonathan Duhamel, to become the 14th top money earner in poker.  Prior to finishing in 4th place at Wednesday night’s No Limit Hold’em event, Eastgate had been at number 15.  The 4th place finish earned the Danish player $209,111 but no second bracelet.

Poker Pro Sam Trickett Jumped by Men After Winning More Than $10 Mil at WSOP

Popular British poker pro and 2nd place finisher at this week’s $1 million buy-in Big One For One Drop, Sam Trickett, was jumped by 6 men after leaving a Las Vegas club during the early morning hours of Wednesday. 

Trickett, a former plumber and footballer, had just won over $10 Tuesday night, the third biggest cash prize ever awarded in a poker tournament.

The 26-year-old was attacked by the men while leaving the undisclosed club with his girlfriend, Natasha Sandhu.  Trickett suffered some lacerations to the face while the assailants spit on his girlfriend.

Peter Eastgate Still All-In With Five Players Remaining at World Series of Poker Event

Peter Eastgate, winner of the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event, was still in search of his second bracelet.

The popular online, Peter Eastgate, poker player was among the five remaining after 9 pm PST July 4 at the WSOP Event #56 No Limit Hold’em.

Prior to the dinner break, Eastgate limped in on the button and Eliyahu Levy did the same from the small blind. Tomas Junek raised it up to 180,000 and Eastgate got out of the way. Levy called and it was two to the flop.

Visa Restrictions on Gambling Blamed for Macau Slow Down in Growth

After years of accelerated growth, the world’s biggest gambling destination, Macau, witnessed an abrupt slowdown in May.  Part of the blame is now being placed in Visa.

Antonio Esfandiari Tops Poker’s All Time Money List Following $18 Mil One Drop Win

After Antonio Esfandiari’s amazing $18,346,673 win at the first ever Big One For One Drop – No Limit Hold’em Tournament Tuesday night, he now sits comfortably atop poker’s All Time Money List.

Brazilian Series Of Poker 2012 to be Sponsored by PokerStars

The Brazilian Series of Poker 2012 (BSOP) will now be part of the PokerStars global tournament calendar.  The world’s largest “real money” online poker site claims to have the biggest chunk of the Brazilian poker playing market.

Ray Bitar Remains Detained After US Magistrate Agrees to $2.5 Mil Bond

The disgraced former CEO of now shuttered Full Tilt Poker, Ray Bitar, remained behind bars on Tuesday after voluntarily turning himself in on Monday.  US law enforcement agents arrested Bitar at New York’s JFK Airport.  

Bitar engaged in what prosecutors described as a “ponzi scheme” though many familiar with the case believe Bitar’s activity was more akin to plain out-and-out theft and does not quite meet the definition of a ponzi scheme.

Darren Rovell Out at CNBC, Returning to ESPN

Darren Rovell, who has regularly covered the sports and online gambling sector for CNBC during a 6-year stint, will be returning back to his roots at ESPN. 

Rovell’s last day at CNBC was Tuesday (July 3) with a final airing on Thursday.

PaddyPower.com Taken Down

The UK’s third biggest bookmaker and one of the world’s most popular online poker sites was taken down a good 5 hours Tuesday afternoon.  The site was back up by late Tuesday evening.

Paddy was suffering from an outage duringthe mid-afternoon period right up through the evening hours.  Betting on the later portion of the Wimbledon tennis tournament was interrupted as a result of the outage.

Antonio Esfandiari and British poker star Sam Trickett have been made 2-1 co-favorites to win the first ever Big One For One Drop tournament at this year’s World Series of Poker. 

Ladbrokes has released odds to win the World Series of Poker Big One For One Drop 2012 now that the final table has been determined.  Ladbrokes does not accept customers from the US at this time unfortunately, but those around the world can take advantage of these odds appearing below.

Phil Hellmuth 6-1 Long Shot to Win WSOP Big One For One Drop

Despite having the most World Series of Poker bracelets than anyone else, British bookmaker Ladbrokes has instilled Phil Hellmuth as a 6-1 long shot to win the coveted Big One For One Drop tournament. 

Hellmuth has won a total of 12 bracelets, breaking his own record of 11 at an earlier World Series of Poker event last month. 

Hellmuth, the self-proclaimed “Poker Brat”, tweeted late last night.
