Exaggerator had odds priced slightly higher than EVEN at -110 to win this weekend’s Belmont Stakes with some fresh legs facing the Preakness Stakes winner.

The good news for Exaggerator and his camp, Kentucky Derby champ Nyquist will not be running due to an infection.  This is not particularly welcoming news, however, for fans of the Triple Crown who would like to have seen Nyquist go up against Exaggerator.

The Preakness Stake winner performed superbly in the slop of Pimlico but will likely encounter a dry track at Belmont Saturday.  Isolated storms are possible but with only a 30 percent chance.

From the rail out, the field is: Governor Malibu, Destin, Cherry Wine, Suddenbreakingnews, Stradivari, Gettysburg, Seeking the Soul, Forever d’Oro, Trojan Nation, Lani, Exaggerator, Brody’s Cause, and Creator.

A few of these contenders have fresh legs including the likes of Brody’s Cause.

“The five weeks should do him some good,” trainer Dale Romans said of Brody’s Cause.

“It’s a logical move for us if you’re not set on the Preakness,” commented Destin trainer Todd Pletcher.

Creator and Trojan Nation will also come into Saturday’s race with plenty of rest after running in the Derby and skipping over the Preakness Stakes.
