Paddy Power Hurt By Lucas Glover

Paddy Power

While Gambling911.com reported yesterday that its friends over at Sportsinteraction.com had made out tremendously on the Lucas Glover US open win Monday, the folks over at Ireland's largest bookmaker, Paddy Power, weren't so lucky it seems.

A golf pundit on Newstalk radio tipped off listeners that the 175/1 long shot could win the tournament.

Paddy Power's said the recommendation instantly triggered "a betting frenzy" in support of the South Carolina native which saw his odds tumbling from 175/1 before the tournament started last Thursday to 11/8 at the start of the final day of play when he was joint leader, according to Conor Pope of the Irish Times.

"Glover's win should have had us cracking open the champagne but thanks to Bob Bubka we're still counting the cost," a company spokesman said this morning. .He said the win was "not far off the damage that a Harrington or McDowell win would have set us back."

It was not immediately known how much money was bet on Glover at Paddy Power.

Over the last two years, Paddy has been crippled by two consecutive British Open wins by native son, Padraig Harrington.
