A major power outage on the island of Antigua has resulted in some online gambling websites experiencing service interruptions.

Antiguan-based Intertops.com, one of the better known Internet sports betting sites, and its Red Casino arm have been knocked out.  Gambling911.com warned of the possibility for such outages Sunday night.

From Intertops.com:

Please be advised that as a direct result of Hurricane Earl, we have suffered a major power outage in Antigua and the Intertops.com website and all its services are currently down.

We are diligently working round the clock to restore our services to you our valued customer and will send notification via e-mail as soon as we are back online.

Thank you for your understanding and patience in this situation!

World Sports Exchange (WSEX.com), which operates in Antigua without a license, also advised its customer service would be unavailable during the morning hours during passage of Hurricane Earl.  Of course, if you have been following Gambling911.com regularly you would realize that WSEX.com’s customer service is not exactly readily available when the sun is shining either.

Earl was expected to become a Category 3 Hurricane by afternoon Monday as it passes by the online gambling hub of Antigua.  The maximum sustained winds were likely to reach 110 MPH near the center.

"It's forecast to become a Category 3 later today," hurricane center forecaster Jessica Schauer told Reuters.

Schauer said authorities along the U.S. eastern seaboard should closely monitor Earl's progress.
