2013 Poker Hall of Fame Inductee Finalists Revealed
The 2013 Poker Hall of Fame finalists have been announced.
They are, in alphabetical order: Chris Bjorin, Humberto Brenes, David Chiu, Thor Hansen, Jennifer Harman, Mike Matusow, Tom McEvoy, Carlos Mortensen, Scotty Nguyen and Huckleberry Seed.
Six of these finalists were nominated last year.

US Online Gamblers Spent US$2.6 Billion in 2012
WASHINGTON—(AFP) - Americans spent US$2.6 billion on gambling websites in 2012, according to a study released Tuesday by the casino industry as it renewed a push for Congress to regulate online betting.
The American Gaming Association, which released the study, said it highlights the need for federal legislation to end the state of “ambiguity” on Internet wagering.

LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) — A banker who took on an online gambling operation was the star of an anti-money-laundering conference in Las Vegas on Monday.
Compliance officer Cathy Scharf told an auditorium full of aghast colleagues about her experiences at a Utah bank that illegally processed a quarter billion dollars for the offshore gambling sites PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker.
She said her bosses told her the bank would fail without the illegal income, and they threatened her with arrest if she told on them.
New Jersey Expects to Have Online Gambling Sites Going by November 26
ATLANTIC CITY — (Associated Press) - New Jersey says it remains on track to start offering Internet gambling by the end of November, although a final launch date has not yet been determined.
The state Division of Gaming Enforcement says it is trying to meet a state deadline of Nov. 26.
The division said Monday that casinos submitted additional information it requested by last Friday's deadline so that regulators can evaluate their applications to begin online betting.

Wynn Resorts has entered into a deal with 888 Holdings to offer online gambling in the United States it was revealed on Monday.
Wynn’s website will operate on the 888 network, All American Poker Network (AAPN).
888 is already partnered with Caesars Interactive, which last week launched the real money version of its WSOP.com website.
888 is now the world’s 3rd largest online poker company after overtaking PartyPoker this month.
Anthony Zinno wins WPT Borgata Poker Open 2013: Beats Vanessa Selbst
Anthony Zinno was declared the winner of this year’s WPT Borgata Poker Open and walks away with a cool $825,099 as a result.
Zinno bested one of the leading female poker pros Vanessa Selbst, who earned $492,569 for her second place finish.
Boston’s Zinno had nearly a half million in live tournament winnings heading into the 2013 WPT Borgata Poker Open with 42 cashes. This is his first win on the sanctioned tournament circuit.
Selbst is closing in on $8 million in live tournament earnings with her Borgata Open cashout.

Latin American Poker Pro Leo Fernandez Suspended by PokerStars
One of Latin America’s top poker players, Leo Fernandez, has been suspended from the Team PokerStars roster until the conclusion of an investigation. Fernandez is alleged to have violated Latin American Poker Tour terms and conditions. The violation in question was not immediately specified as of press time late Thursday.
"Leo made a big mistake that we didn't agree and of which we cannot speak right now," said Reinaldo Venegas, a PokerStars representative.
WSOP.com Opens for Business, Real Money Online Poker in US
Caesars Interactive Entertainment officially opened its online poker site, WSOP.com, for real money play at 12:19 pm EDT Thursday (September 19, 2013).
The MAC-compatible Web card room will compete with only one other real money site, Ultimate Poker, for business within the United States.
More specifically, the two sites will be vying for a piece of the Nevada player population. Neither can accept real money play beyond the Silver State’s borders.

(Reuters) - U.S. gaming company Caesars Interactive Entertainment and partner 888 will launch online poker in the American state of Nevada this week following the relaxation of a ban on Internet gambling.
Nevada, home to the famous gambling resort of Las Vegas, is one of a number of tax-hungry American states that have eased the online ban imposed by Congress in 2006. The ban dealt a blow to companies like London-listed 888 which had set up in the United States.

(Reuters) - Donna Zaharevitz began gambling after a birthday visit in her late 40s to the Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Lonely, with four children in college and her husband busy with a demanding job, Zaharevitz soon returned.
"I had been a caregiver, but all of the sudden, there was nobody to care for," Zaharevitz says.

(Associated Press) - A handful of professional card players have won permission to play in legal, high-stakes poker games while the case plays out. They include a popular baby-faced player named Justin "Boosted J" Smith.
Lawyers for the pro players have argued their clients make a legitimate living playing poker. They say the players should be able to pursue their careers until the case is resolved _ and a judge has agreed.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in Argentina for allegedly hacking into online gambling sites and payment processors.
Dubbed "the superhacker", the teenager was making $50,000 (£31,500) a month, working from his bedroom in Buenos Aires, police told the Reuters.
