Caesars Interactive Entertainment officially opened its online poker site, WSOP.com, for real money play at 12:19 pm EDT Thursday (September 19, 2013).

The MAC-compatible Web card room will compete with only one other real money site, Ultimate Poker, for business within the United States.

More specifically, the two sites will be vying for a piece of the Nevada player population.  Neither can accept real money play beyond the Silver State’s borders.

As you probably have guessed, Nevada is mostly desert.  So just how many people actually live there?

Nevada only has a population of around 3 million people, a good portion of which are likely under the age of 18 or who don’t even gamble, though both companies hope to capitalize on a large tourist base of gamblers.

“This is a historic moment for our company,”Caesars Interactive Entertainment CEO Mitch Garber said this week. “A state-of-the-art poker offering from one of the most established and regulated operators in the United States, is finally here. We have taken the 43-year-old World Series of Poker brand and combined it with the Caesars Entertainment portfolio of assets to provide consumers with what we believe will be an unrivaled poker offering to satisfy today’s technologically savvy consumer. We will bridge land-based and online gaming in ways that have never been seen before.”
