The Philadelphia Eagles deny they ordered starting quarterback Michael Vick to cancel an interview Thursday with Oprah Winfrey.

Michael Vick’s agent had agreed to allow Oprah Winfrey a sit down interview with the disgraced NFL quarterback now on the “road to redemption” only if she would cancel a bet with CNN’s Piers Morgan.  The two had wagered on who got the first crack at a Vick interview.  Vick was charged and imprisoned for running a dog fighting ring that encompassed gambling.

"Not true," said the Eagles spokesman, regarding the notion that Philadelphia pushed for the cancellation.

"The Eagles were supportive of Michael's decision both when he agreed to do the show and when he decided to cancel," added Chris Shigas, a spokesman for Vick.

Initially no reason was given for the cancelation.  Vick later said it was for “personal reasons”.

Vick's statement from Tuesday said: "After careful consideration, I will need to postpone the taping of the Oprah Winfrey interview scheduled for February 22," he said. "I admire and respect Oprah and hope to be able to participate in an interview in the future."
