OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (Gambling911.com) - Dallas Cowboys CeeDee Lamb struggling through a lower-body issue in Thursday night's loss to the Buccaneers resulted in a controversial ruling by FanDuel.
A player questioned how Lamb left the field with an apparent injury only to return and get injured again and how FanDuel's Bet Protect+ is applied in such situations.
Bet Protect+ is a feature that allows sports bettors to recover their wagers if a player gets injured during a game and cannot return.
FanDuel introduced the enhanced version in April 2026 and expanded it to NFL betting in September.
The cost is 3% of your wager. With a $100 bet, the cost would be $3 for the insurance.
But what happens when a player is injured, returns then is injured again/
The FanDuel customer posted his chat session with a customer representative via X.
"He was injured and exited. Injured again and exited the second time. Is the injury protection for the full game or just the first possible injury? The player asked.
The FanDuel rep responded by stating that Injury Protection only applies with the first injury.
"If they return, injury protection does not apply," the rep advised.
Absolutely the most unprofessional response @FanDuel @FanDuel_Support @FanDuelSports Pathetic, and I will not place another bet with Fanduel again. My understanding is bet protection covers the entire game? https://t.co/7zN4fiRwRS

FanDuel's own rules contradict what the representative told this player however.
"If a player exits the game on account of injury, subsequently returns and plays, and then exits again because of injury, Bet Protect+ will apply"
The customer confirmed he was ultimately refunded the $5, but not for several hours after the fact, and well after the customer threatened never to play there again and to have all his friends close their accounts.
FanDuel later issued a statement in regard to the matter:
"CeeDee Lamb left last night’s game due to injury in the 2nd half. If you added Bet Protect+ to a bet including CeeDee Lamb last night, you’re covered - full game, in cash. BP+ exists to protect late game injuries like this, and we will always look for official confirmation and do the right thing. We appreciate your patience!"
Chalk this one up to a rep who provided wrongful information perhaps.
Cowboys fans also got some good news Friday.
"My understanding is not a major injury for CeeDee Lamb," ESPN's NFL insider Ian Rapoport said. "It is more of a quad bruise than anything else. You saw him on the sideline (Thursday night). He was grimacing. He was clearly in pain and did not finish the game, but he did come in and out of the game late."
