Legendary Vegas Hotel Selling Off Everything That's Not Bolted Down

tropicana-060424.png

The Tropicana, one of the oldest hotels on the Strip, closed permanently in April to make way for the new A’s ballpark.  And now, with an implosion scheduled for later this year, the hotel is selling everything that's not bolted down, literally.  Great for Las Vegas history buffs!

From SFGate:

"For the past few weekends, International Content Liquidation Inc. has been running the Tropicana’s liquidation sale. It cost $20 per person per day to check out the wares. Due to the ongoing demolition, only adults 18 and over were allowed in, and hard-soled shoes were recommended.

"The contents of 1,800 guest rooms and suites are for sale. There’s bedding, 1,500 flat-screen TVs, Bose radios, hair dryers, glassware and plates and furniture — last weekend, all guest room furniture was buy one, get one free. Looking to upgrade your yard? Pool and patio furniture is for sale, as well as workout gear from the fitness center. For small businesses, there are all the components of the commercial kitchens, plus tables, chairs and more from the restaurants. There are even crystal chandeliers."

Phillies Infielder Banned for Betting

Philadelphia Phillies infielder Jose Rodriguez was one of five major league and minor league baseball players either suspended or permanently banned Tuesday for violating MLB's gambling policy.

San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano was also among those banned earlier in the day.  Marcano is banned from the MLB for life.  Rodriguez is suspended for one season.

Also suspended are Padres pitcher Jay Groome of Barnegat Township, New Jersey, Oakland Athletics pitcher Michael Kelly and Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Andrew Saalfrank.Philadelphia assigned the 23-year-old middle infielder to Double-A Reading. In 38 games with the Fightin Phils, Rodriguez hit .265/.319/.444 with four home runs, 18 RBIs and 13 walks.

According to MLB, data showed Rodriguez bet on baseball 31 times on Sept. 30, 2021, and from June 5 to July 30, 2022, while he was on a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox.

The league said Rodriguez bet on 28 MLB games and college baseball three times.

Rodriguez's bets included seven involving the White Sox while he played for the Birmingham Barons, Chicago's Double-A affiliate.

Two of the bets were on the outcome while the five others were on runs scored, according to the league's statement.

MLB said Rodriguez bet $749.09 on baseball overall — $724.09 of which was on MLB games and included parlays.

The suspension, as opposed to a ban, comes as the league determined Rodriguez did not play in any of the games he bet on and did not bet on his teams.

"There is no evidence to suggest — and Rodriguez denies — that any outcomes in the baseball games on which he placed bets were compromised, influenced, or manipulated in any way," MLB's statement said.

Attorney Believes Bally's Tampered With Machine to Conceal Evidence of $2.5 Million Win

Rony Beal hit the jackpot on a Wheel of Fortune slot machine in Bally's Atlantic City Hotel & Casino.

“I was hoping for $1,000, saying, 'Please God, let me win,’” the 72-year-old told 6abc Action News.

Instead the win was $2,555,910.

Sadly, Beal’s ecstasy was short-lived.

Bally’s security staff swarmed over to the crowd celebrating with the Shamong, NJ, resident and after a brief look at the winning machine, they informed Beal it had suffered a malfunction called “reel tilt,” which voided her whopping win.

Her attorney, Mike Di Croce, believes they tampered with the machine — which is housed by Bally’s but manufactured and managed by IGT — to tamper any evidence of Beal’s win.

“They fooled with the machine before anyone else had an opportunity to take a look at this,” he told 6abc. “You invite somebody to your business, they pay the money [and] they win — you’re supposed to pay. That didn’t happen.”
