ATLANTIC CITY — (Associated Press) - New Jersey is deadly serious about making sure anyone who gambles online once Internet betting begins this week is physically within the state. And the technology designed to ensure it may freeze some bettors out of the action unless they move farther away from the state’s borders.

Some Visa and Mastercard Credit Card Issuing Banks Won’t Process for US Online Gambling Sites

American Express Co., Wells Fargo & Co (NYSE:WFC), Credit card issuers, Bank of America Corp (NYSE:BAC) and eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY)’s PayPal won't be permitting transactions for online gambling sites located in the United States, at least for now.

Elusive Boston Crime Boss Whitey Bulger Sentenced to Life Behind Bars

BOSTON — (Associated Press) - Former Boston crime boss James “Whitey” Bulger was led off to prison Thursday to begin serving a life sentence at 84 for his murderous reign in the 1970s and ‘80s, accepting his punishment in stone-faced silence even as a judge castigated him for his “almost unfathomable” depravity.

Bulger’s sentencing brought to a close a sordid case that exposed FBI complicity in his crimes and left a trail of devastated families whose loved ones — fathers, uncles, brothers and sisters — were killed by Bulger or his henchmen.

Armed Bandits Hold of Bookie Shop With Roll of Wall Paper

Professional Footballers’ Association to Institute Blanket Ban on Gambling by Employees

The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) will no longer permit its employees to gamble following the embarrassment that came about with revelations that union chief executive Gordon Taylor placed more than £4million on 2,000 bets.  He’s also is reported to owe at least one bookmaker over £100,000.

The action is being implemented for the ‘integrity of the union’.

Casino to Open Soon in Martha’s Vineyard

BOSTON (CBS/Associated Press) — A Martha’s Vineyard-based Indian tribe is claiming to have won federal approval to open a gambling facility on the island.

The Wampanoag Tribe of Aquinnah, a federally-recognized tribe, issued a statement on Tuesday saying it planned to move ahead with plans to convert an unfinished community center on tribal lands into a temporary Class II gambling facility.

New Jersey Allowing Individuals to Ban Themselves From Online Gambling

(Associated Press) - ATLANTIC CITY — New Jersey is extending its self-exclusion list to allow people to ban themselves from online betting.

The action comes with Internet gambling set to begin in just over two weeks, and some advocates worry about a spike in compulsive gambling.

New Jersey, like many other states, allows people who feel they have a gambling problem to place their names on a list of those who are not allowed to enter any of Atlantic City’s 12 casinos.
