Delaware's Sports Betting Challenge Faces Uphill Battle

Delaware's hopes of getting the U.S. Supreme Court to help expand sports betting in the First State may be a long shot.

Widener University law professor Michael Goldberg says the state's effort to get the nation's highest court to overturn the Third Circuit Court of Appeals August decision that left Delaware with only parlay bets on NFL games may have a difficult time getting on the Supreme Court docket.

Statistically, the Supreme Court takes only a small percentage of the cases its asked to hear, but Goldberg says that's not the only hurdle Delaware faces.

Pennsylvania State Lottery Strikes Deal With Hockey Teams

Gambling and sports moved a step closer yesterday when the Pennsylvania Lottery announced that it was selling $2 instant-game tickets featuring the logos of the Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins.

The lottery struck deals with the teams and the NHL, just as it had with the Eagles, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the NFL, and before that, with the Phillies, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Major League Baseball.

The hockey tickets will be on sale during the NHL season. The lottery says it designates all proceeds to older residents in the state.
