Chris Christie Says He Supports Gambling, But Does He?

Gambling911.com has previously reported on the major Republican presidential candidates' records on gambling issues.

We revealed how Texas Governor Rick Perry, Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney would be no friend to the gambling industry should any of them be elected President of the United States, all of them having stymied or attempted to stymie the expansion of gambling during their respective political careers.

But those are all declared candidates for the presidency.

Atlantic City Ghost Town as Hurricane Irene Approaches

The US second largest gambling destination, Atlantic City, has been completely evacuated in anticipation for Hurricane Irene.

The storm had weakened to a Category 1 but was expected to bring high damaging winds and a strong storm surge.  A storm of similar strength, Hurricane Belle, completely flooded neighboring Long Beach Island in 1976.  That system tracked a little further out to sea than Irene’s current forecast track, which takes her right along the New Jersey coast.

This weekend is typically among the busiest for Atlantic City.

Daniel Negreanu Compares Current US Policy to Cold War Communist Russia

Poker pro Daniel Negreanu recently escaped the United States to his native Canada where he is now free to play online poker from the comfort of his home.

The US Justice Department indicted three of the world’s largest online poker rooms on April 15, forcing them to shut of hundreds of thousands of players including Negreanu.  The companies were charged with funneling gambling monies through a small Utah bank, masking transactions as purchases for dog food and golf balls.

Atlantic City Braces for Hurricane Irene as Models Shift West

Hurricane models began shifting the track of dangerous Hurricane Irene west on Thursday morning as the storm makes a beeline towards the gambling Mecca of Atlantic City.

Irene is forecast to still be a category 2 storm by the time it brushes the East Coast resort city during the early morning hours of Sunday.  While landfall could occur along the North Carolina Outer Banks, current forecast models have the storm running parallel along the East Coast of the United States during what is typically one of the busiest travel periods leading up to the Labor Day weekend.
