The National Hockey League board of governors are set to hold meetings next month in Las Vegas, an event signaled as the NHL warming up to having a team based in the gambling capital.  It is here they will formerly announce the expansion process.

Nevada Judge to Decide if Sands Wrongful Termination Case Should Proceed

LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) — A Nevada judge will decide if a wrongful termination case against Las Vegas Sands Corp. can proceed nearly five years after it was first filed.

District Court Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez heard closing arguments Thursday morning from lawyers representing former Sands China Ltd. CEO Steven Jacobs and casino-hotel company Las Vegas Sands.

At issue first is whether the case can be tried in Nevada since Sands China's operations are based in the lucrative Asian gambling enclave of Macau.

SAN DIEGO — (Associated Press) - A former U.S. Navy SEAL has been sentenced in San Diego for bilking people out of more than $1 million in an investment fraud scheme.

Jason Mullaney got six years and eight months in state prison Wednesday for fraud, grand theft and other crimes.

Prosecutors contend the 44-year-old Mullaney cheated at least 13 people — many of them former Navy SEALs — by convincing them he was using their investment money to make loans.

A Swinburn University research study found that one in every five Vietnamese females serving time in Victoria, Australia prisons had been charged with drug offenses.

Kansas Senate Approves Fantasy Sports as Game of Skill Bill

TOPEKA, Kansas — (Associated Press) - Fantasy sports would be declared a legal game of skill under a bill approved by the Kansas Senate in a 37-1 vote Monday.

Lawmakers moved several pieces of legislation as they shift into the final stretch of the session. The fantasy sports bill would clarify an ongoing dispute over the legal status of fantasy football leagues if passed by the House and signed by Republican Gov. Sam Brownback.

MGM Resorts Q1 Profits Up 65 Percent: Beats Wall Street Expectations

LAS VEGAS – (Associated Press) - MGM Resorts International posted a profit of $169.9 million, or 33 cents a share, in the quarter that ended March 31. That was up 65 percent compared to the same time a year ago and easily beat Wall Street expectations.
