Action Network: Slow Progress for Sports Betting in Washington

SEATTLE, WA (Gambling911.com) - Though sports gambling has been legal in Washington since 2020, the activity is contained at tribal casinos only.  There is no mobile sports betting and there are no daily fantasy sports permitted online.

Washington State is one of the few states that have explicitly made daily fantasy sports competitions illegal.  Interestingly enough, Washington was the only state to explicitly make placing a bet online a Class C felony.  While the odds of being taken away from your home in handcuffs for placing bets with an offshore sportsbook or Pay Per Head bookie are slim to none, few folks these days are aware this law exists.  It's really right up there with the crime of making margarine in Wisconsin.

Ben Halls of the Action Network writes:

"With leading DFS platforms DraftKings and FanDuel having entered the Washington state sports betting market in partnership with local tribal casinos, though, there is hope that in the future perhaps fantasy sports contests may be legalized."

We say, "Don't hold your breath".

Bookies also flourish here in that state law prohibits betting on in-state schools.  This includes college basketball darlings Gonzaga and your undefeated Washington Huskies.

Huskies Undefeated and Heading to the College Football Playoffs?

SEATTLE WA (Gambling911.com) - Safely in the College Football Playoffs at 13-0: No. 2 Michigan and No. 3 Washington.  The other two teams we will find out about as this was going to press.

Betting on the Huskies is only available at internationally licensed mobile sportsbooks and local bookies.

The demand for betting on Washington football will be high but the state won't see much of a benefit.

Michael Penix Jr. passed for 319 yards and a touchdown, Dillon Johnson ran for 152 yards and two TDs and No. 3 Washington wrapped up a spot in the College Football Playoff by beating No. 5 Oregon 34-31 on Friday night in the Pac-12 Championship.

“The love and trust we have on our team is unmatched,” said Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., the game MVP after passing for 319 yards and a touchdown. “We’ve been doing it each and every week. We’re not going to say we want those games to be close.”
