NHL Betting Preview: Buffalo Sabres vs. Washington Capitals

Dec 26 2008 - 12:51pm

The Buffalo Sabres will try and slow down Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals as the teams meet on Friday.  The Capitals are coming off a dramatic comeback against the New York Rangers on Tuesday in a game they trailed 4-0. Ovechekin had two goals and an assist as the Caps rallied for five goals, winning 5-4 in overtime. "They probably believed 4-0 they'd win the game," said Ovechkin, "They tried to play conservative, but we play a different way. We play a hard, physical game and take lots of shots. You see the results."

Washington has been excellent at home this season going 13-1-1, outscoring opponents 56-29.  Ovechkin has 13 goals in the fourteen home games he has played in.  Washington still has a revolving door in goal as neither Jose Theodore nor Brent Johnson has won the starting job.

The Sabres are coming off back-to-back overtime losses including a 4-3 defeat to Pittsburgh on Monday. "We played hard, so it was a tough break," Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said. "I thought our guys did a great job against a very skilled team." Buffalo goaltender Ryan Miller has given up at least four goals in three of his last four starts which is unusual.  He has been very good this season for Buffalo and he has been excellent in his career against the Capitals, going 8-2-0 with a 2.48 goals against average.  Last month he defeated the Capitals, 5-0 in Buffalo.

Buffalo has won their last three road games at Washington.  Here are more Hockey betting stats for Friday's game. The Sabres are 26-12 in their last 38 vs. the Southeast. The Sabres are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in Washington.

The Capitals are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. the Northeast. The Capitals are 6-1 in their last 7 overall. The Capitals are 36-15 in their last 51 home games. The Capitals are 17-35-1 in their last 53 Friday games.

The Under is 13-3 in the Capitals last 16 vs. the Northeast. The Over is 4-1-1 in the Capitals last 6 overall.
