If the current Players Championship leaderboard were to hold up at the conclusion of Day 3, we would be talking about massive payouts for a few lucky gamblers.

Leading the way into Sunday’s play were J.B. Holmes and Kyle Stanley.  Holmes would pay out $12500 on a $100 bet if placed prior to the start of this year’s Players Championship.  Stanley would pay out a cool $17500.

Betting was still available ahead of Round 4 with play but at dramatically reduced odds for both those players and much of the rest of the field still among the top 10.

Stanley and Holmes were each coming in with odds slightly above 2-1 for a payout of just over $20 for every $10 bet.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
