Favorites North Carolina Win: Head to NCAA Championship Game

North Carolina Tar Heels
Apr 4 2009 - 11:56pm

The North Carolina Tar Heels enjoyed an exclamation 14 point win over Villanova (83-69), despite past trends suggesting that the later team could still cover the 7 point spread.

Using the money line when playing against teams that score more than 77 points after 15 plus games, Villanova enjoyed a record of 10 wins and 1 loss coming into this game.  Take away the "after 15 games" scenario and the record becomes 19-5 over the last two seasons.   Add the fact that they played North Carolina and apparently these stats go out the window.

North Carolina has remained the favorite to win the 2009 NCAA Tournament throughout.  They opened as the +300 favorite, paying out $300 for every $100 bet at Sportsinteraction.com - Click Here

Ty Lawson scored 22 points, Wayne Ellington had 20 more, and the Tar Heels, with their four, five, maybe more NBA-caliber players, eased to an 83-69 win Saturday night over the plucky but overmatched Wildcats.

Tyler Hansbrough had 18 points and 11 rebounds to mark a quite successful return to the Final Four after a remarkable dud last year in a semifinal loss to Kansas. Next up, North Carolina (33-4) goes for its second title in five years Monday against Michigan State, an 82-73 winner over Connecticut.
