Italian pro Mustapha Kanit Wins EPT12 Barcelona €10k High Roller

Italian pro Mustapha Kanit is the newly crowned EPT12 Barcelona €10k High Roller champion - although he didn't even have to beat all of his opponents. After Swedish player Niklas Astedt's exit in fourth place, the remaining three players paused the clock to discuss a deal. They sealed the deal pretty quickly, and in spectacular fashion. Kanit chopped all the money with Nick Petrangelo and Kully Sidhu, and that was that for the record-breaking 506-entry €10k High Roller. The Italian had the biggest stack and was named champion, getting both the coveted trophy and a €738,759 first prize while Sidhu banked €640,000 and Petrangelo €592,840.

The 24-year-old from Ravenna now has live tournament winnings amounting to more than $4.6 million, and has now grabbed the #1 spot n the Italian all-time money list. Kanit's performances have been outstanding this year. The best way to illustrate his extraordinary results is to point out the fact that tonight's payday is only Kanit's third best over the last few months. He won the one-day €50k Super High Roller at the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino EPT Grand Final in May for €936,500. Then, three weeks later, Kanit captured the PokerStars SCOOP Main Event title under his online name "lasgnaaammm" for a gigantic $1,304,720.

With a €640,000 reward, the officially listed runner-up Kully Sidhu secured his best live result. Previously, he appeared on the EPT10 London final table, playing on his home soil. The 33-year-old from Wolverhampton finished eighth back then, bringing £60,640 back home to the West Midlands.

Back in January, Nick "caecilius" Petrangelo competed at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. This truly was the start of an adventure with the 28-year-old American pro from Massachussetts going into beast mode, winning over $400k in the Bahamas. He's been prolific ever since, amassing nearly $1.5m in live tournament winnings prior to his arrival at the EPT Barcelona Poker Festival. Tonight Petrangelo notched up another milestone in this amazing run by snagging €592,840 for third place in the record-smashing €10k High Roller.
