Caterer Who Pulled Gun on Police During Poker Raid Was Serving Up More Than Chow
Police on Wednesday released surveillance video taken from inside a Chattanooga, Tennessee catering hall that became the center of a high stakes poker raid and shooting.
The sting operation happened last week at ATC Healthcare on Gunbarrel Road.
Police Chief Bobby Dodd invited the media to review the video, however, no recording was permitted since the evidence was yet to be turned over to the prosecution or defense.
Catering Clifford Billups, 32, was shot by police after pulling out a gun while trying to escape.
"There's no way they couldn't have known it was cops from actually hearing the cops yelling, 'Police! Search warrant!" Or seeing the police cars, then turning and point a weapon at them when the people around him are clearly trying to surrender," says Chief Dodd.
Billups was said to have been more than a caterer.
"He's actually buying in to the game. He hands over cash and Mr. Higdon returns a stack of chips to him so he can participate in the poker game," Dodd said after a review of the video.
