€242,230 Seized From 2010 Paddy Power Irish Open Runner Up Proceeds of Crime

Poker player Paul Carr, 34, will not be getting his €242,230 back. Authorities seized the money as part of two separate probes and determined last week that funds were derived through criminal activities.

€242,230 was seized August 29, 2011 during a routine traffic stop outside of Limerick, Ireland and the driver was arrested on suspicion of money laundering after officers found the cash packed in a bag.  Carr would claim later on the funds were his.

€36,000 was later seized form a bedroom during a drug sweep.  Carr claimed a friend had been minding the money as the poker pro did not have a bank account.

Authorities claim Carr has 23 criminal convictions and regularly associates with Limerick crime associates.

Carr’s total live tournament wins were $464,047 as of this writing.
