2015 Preakness Stakes Contenders: American Pharoah, Firing Line Lead the Pack

American Pharoah: American Pharoah is the favorite to win the 2015 Preakness Stakes. The horse won the Kentucky Derby and now has a chance to win the Triple Crown. The horse was named the top 2-year old male of 2014 for trainer Bob Baffert. American Pharoah was the favorite to win last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile but had to be pulled out due to injury. American Pharoah is expected to go off as the odds-on favorite in Preakness odds for the race on Saturday, May 16th.

Carpe Diem: One of the longshot contenders to win the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 16th at Pimlico in Baltimore, Maryland is Carpe Diem. The horse finished a disappointing 10th in the Kentucky Derby. He won the Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland last year and finished second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita Park. The horse is trained by Todd Pletcher and is ridden by John Velasquez.

Divining Rod: One of the longshots to win the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 16th is Divining Rod who won the Lexington Stakes in April. The horse is trained by Arnaud Delacour and is by Tapit. Divining Rod did not race in the Kentucky Derby so he comes in fresh. He is expected to go off with odds of at least 20-1 in the Preakness Stakes.

Dortmund: One of the main contenders to win the 2015 Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 16th is Dortmund for trainer Bob Baffert. The horse, owned by Kaleem Shah, Inc. finished third in the Kentucky Derby. The horse won the Grade 1 $500,000 Los Alamitos Futurity and posted a new track record in the process. Dortmund is expected to go off with odds of about 5-1 in the Preakness.

Firing Line: One of the contenders to win the 2015 Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 16th is Firing Line. The horse finished second in the Kentucky Derby behind the favored American Pharoah. Firing Line is trained by Simon Callaghan and ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens. The horse is expected to go off with Preakness Stakes odds of about 4-1.

Stanford: One of the longshots to win the 2015 Preakness on Saturday, May 16th at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland is Stanford who was scratched for the Kentucky Derby. Stanford finished second in the Louisiana Derby. The horse is trained by Todd Pletcher and is by one of the leading sires in Malibu Moon. Stanford will go off at double digit Preakness odds if he is entered in this race.

Tale of Verve: Tale of Verve will be one of the big longshots to win the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 15th. The horse is expected to go off with odds of 50-1 or more. The horse was entered into the Kentucky Derby but was scratched after not making it into the full field. The horse is the son of Tale of Ekati who finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby in 2008.

Bodhisattva: One of the longshots to win the 2015 Preakness on Saturday, May 16th is Bodhisattva. The horse is expected to go off at Preakness Stakes odds of 50-1 or more. Bodhisattva is coming off a win in the Federico Tesio Stakes which has been a Preakness prep for horses that don’t run in the Kentucky Derby. Bodhisattva will be trying to do something that only one horse has ever done as the only Federico Tesio Stakes winner to go on to win the Preakness was Deputed Testamony in 1983.

Danzig Moon: One of the longshots to win the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 16th is Danzig Moon. The horse finished fifth in the 2015 Kentucky Derby, beaten by six lengths. The horse is the son of Malibu Moon who sired 2013 Kentucky Derby winner Orb. He is trained by Mark Casse and owned by John C. Oxley. Danzig Moon is listed with odds of 20-1 to win the 2015 Preakness Stakes that can be seen on NBC.
