Transgenders, Necrophiles and Gamblers Banned From Driving in Russia

Russia continues to crack down on its LGBT community, this time passing a law that bans anyone who is a transgender, necrophile, transsexual, or S&M enthusiast from getting behind the wheel of an automobile.  Likewise, the new law affects compulsive gamblers as they too will be unable to drive.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev cited a World Health Organization classification of illnesses called the ICD-10 upon signing the new law.

From Vocativ.com:

Russia says it wants to bar people with “mental disorders” from driving in a bid to cut down on sky-high traffic accident figures. In the first nine months of 2014, almost 20,000 people were killed in traffic accidents in Russia, according to government officials.

The Russian legal community for the most part condemned the new law while the Professional Drivers Union backed it.

“We have too many deaths on the road, and I believe toughening medical requirements for applicants is fully justified,” said Alexander Kotov, head of the union.
