Restore Americas Wire Act Gets Another Hearing for December

Gambling magnate Sheldon Adelson’s pet project, Restore Americas Wire Act or RAWA, will receive a second hearing in December.

As Gambling911.com reported last month, incoming House Speaker Paul Ryan was quick to hire one Dave Hoppe, a top Washington lobbyist, as his proposed chief of staff.  Among Hoppe’s clients: Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling.

That’s the same Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling formed by – you guessed it – Sheldon Adelson.

RAWA seeks to turn back the hands of time and prevent states such as New Jersey and Nevada from offering legalized online gambling such as poker and casino games.  New Jersey already has a thriving interstate online gambling industry led by the likes of 888, Bwin.Party and Resorts Casino/Mohegan Sun following Governor Chris Christie signing into law a measure legalizing both online casinos and poker.

The hearing has been scheduled for December 9.

Despite some movement in the House on the issue and outgoing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid offering some degree of half-hearted support, the legislation has failed to muster up much support among those in Congress.
