Names of Those Arrested in Platinum SB Probe Yet to be Released

Though the RCMP announced it would be identifying those arrested Tuesday March 5, 2013 in connection with a massive bookmaking operation in the Ontario region today, this was yet to occur as of Wednesday evening.

18 individuals total were arrested in connection with the business known as Platinum SB Sportsbook, operating out of Costa Rica.

Among those arrested were a Thornhill man, 38, charged with numerous firearms related offences. Others arrested live in Richmond Hill, Aurora, Stouffville, Vaughan, Markham, London, Toronto, Oakville and Barrie.

Another four suspects were still being sought, RCMP Asst. Commissioner Stephen White said, which could explain the delay in releasing names of those arrested.

Authorities seized the Platinum SB website last month following a raid of a Super Bowl party reportedly hosted by the organization. The sportsbook continues to run however.

The RCMP asserts that the bookmaking operation has ties to organized crime.
