An explosion in Gibraltar has resulted in Gibtelecom service disruptions and down time at the popular poker sites PartyPoker along with other online sports betting companies including Stan James, Ladbrokes and William Hill.  Some of the biggest names in online gambling operate from Gibraltar. *Just a quick correction, we initially reported that PokerStars had been affected, however, they operate out of the Isle of Man and were not impacted by the explosion.

The explosion occurred in a fuel tank on the island nation, resulting in a massive power outage to the region.  The fire started around 1 pm local time and was brought under control around 4 pm.

A Gibraltar Government spokesman said: "The fire is under control and there are no casualties but most of Gibraltar is still without power.

"It's been like that for the past three hours.

"Engineers will be going into the power station to assess the situation as soon as they're given the go-ahead to do so and try to start reconnecting the power supply again."

The explosion left many shaken this Easter Sunday.

The affected websites were working diligently to restore services. Power had been restored at Gibtelecom with a controlled infastructure reboot in progress that should have most sites fully operational by the early evening hours Eastern Standard Time.
