Burst Fish Tank Destroys Gulfstream Park Casino: Called ‘Catastrophic Failure’

The damage caused by a burst fish tank at South Florida’s famed Gulfstream Park Casino appears to be akin to that of a massive flood sweeping through two floors of this sprawling establishment.  Hurricane Isaac didn’t even cause this type of damage to the Louisiana and Mississippi riverboat casinos.  Who would have thought a ruptured 13,000 aquarium could cause such destruction?

A timetable was not yet set for when the Gulfstream Park Casino will open following Sunday’s flood.

But alas progress is being made.

From the Gulfstream Park twitter account:

Casino Update: The carpet has been removed and we are moving slot machines in order to install new carpet. Stay tuned.

"It was surreal. There was a 'pop' and the next thing I knew I was wringing out my dress," said patron Diana Marvez.  It was like I had been on Splash Mountain.”

A Hazmat service had to be called in to determine there was hazardous no chemical leakage.

"I would definitely call this a catastrophic failure, a very rare event," said Mat Roy, president of Living Color, the Fort Lauderdale firm that installed the aquarium at Gulfstream and two smaller ones behind the backstop at Marlins Park, in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel

All fish were saved following the tank explosion, including two nurse sharks.
