Breaking News: Fight Breaks Out at CAP London

CAP London
Jan 30 2009 - 3:46pm

A brawl involving organizers of Casino Affiliate Programs (CAP) and the Gambling Portal Webmasters Association has broken out in the London hotel where a CAP affiliate event was taking place.

Poker Affiliate Listings has reported that police were arriving at the hotel.

"The details are still sketchy but apparently the show organizers instructed security to remove GPWA staff from the hotel (not the show) by any means necessary. Apparently Steven Corfman (a member of the GPWA team) took the brunt of it and was assaulted in front of everybody by security in the lobby while being screamed at by CAP staff."

Others on the scene have stated that there were no punches thrown but a loud screaming match ensued.

"I was unfortunately in my room when this happened. I came down to the lobby and it was a massive panic. People were yelling and the Professor (Lou Fabiono) was screaming at J Todd (GPWA) to 'step outside and fight him' in front of us all. I am not going back into the show," one attendee told PAL.

Previous CAP events have featured raids by law enforcement over "illegal poker tournaments" being held by organizers.

CAP organizers have been embroiled in a bitter feud with the folks from GPWA over allegations that the CAP organizers - specifically Warren Jolly and Lou Fabiono - were running a rogue online poker room and not paying their affiliates for more than two months.

GPWA's Rebecca Liggero was believed to be unharmed during the mayhem.

As an attorney, insurance

As an attorney, insurance policies do not cover intentional acts. In effect, this means that any intentional violence initiated by the organizers, even if simply an instruction, results in the organizing company and the organizers themselves personally liable for the acts. In addition, the beating of an industry employee or executive in front of his peers adds additional liability in a case. This is due to the result of the individual's altered perception in the industry and his/her ability to conduct business in future. This liability alone is commonly assessed to the tune of a minimum of 100,000 GBP. I don't know who the CAP's legal counsel is, but they are best to listen to them now. I do hope the young Mr. Corfman is well, but he should consider legal counsel.

I'm So Proud

I'm So Proud to be part of an industry that has come to this. This reminds me of a "lovers quarrel" the blew up after the first CAC an nearly killed GPWA back in 2002/2003

I've Been Involved in This Industry Over 10 Years

This is tame compared to some of the slugfests we've had along the way. People need to calm down. You haven't been in a true brawl until you've been confronted with the likes of Sumo Sue Schneider. This woman had me in a chokehold for God's sake in front of a few dozen industry drunks. We once all sneaked into Sue's GIGSE Conference after she had one of her goons (okay Kevin was a teddy bear) stand guard with orders not to let more than one of us in. Jenny Woo flashed her breasts and four of us stormed the conference. Kevin was all ga ga. Sue just laughed and hit him over the head with her binder lol. No security to escort us out. Those were the days!!!! BTW I still recall the old GPWA implosion from back in the day. CAP is way more ahead of where that organization was in 2002/2003. I have a tough time believing CAP can self-destruct so quickly but there definitely seems to be a groundswell reading these forums. Never noticed any dissatisfaction at the CAP events we attended and there were plenty of people at those. I can't vouch for anything that's transpired in the past year and a half though. I think Lou and Warren are their own worst enemies right now. I can't for the life of me imagine how their involvement with CardSpike (assuming everyone is getting paid now) would lead to such a mudslide. One piece of advise - they don't need to be treading on other people's territory (Amsterdam). I think that is downright obnoxious and I'm not alone here. They need to some that time off and regroup instead of trying to destroy the competition. I don't think Lou and Warren are bad people. I think they are letting other motivations get in the way of business sense.

This is the most accurate statement and advice that should definitely be heeded... "They need some time off and regroup instead of trying to destroy the competition. I don't think Lou and Warren are bad people. I think they are letting other motivations get in the way of business sense." They are putting so much pressure on themselves to monopolize the industry that they end up going down corrupt roads which leads to implosions, both on CAP, and literally within Lou's own body. They need to relax, and just take their piece of the pie, and let other people eat too. Their super affiliate friends should heed this same advice.

He's just a kid!

Steve wasn't even doing anything, just standing there. He wasn't accosting anyone from the conference. He was in the lobby, a public area that was not part of the conference. CAP had 4 guys literally beat Steve up in the lobby. They were pushing him, kneeing him, he fell. They threw him into the elevator. Some people were taking photos of it. Steve is just a kid. He can't be more than 2 years out of school. He's harmless! Everyone in the lobby at the conference saw it. It was disgusting. Some of the programs exhibiting saw it and were furious.

This was a mistake, and as

This was a mistake, and as soon as I knew about it I made sure Steve was immediately let back in, this was sorted within 10 mins. There was no police, brawl etc, etc. Any questions please mail me alex@capeuro.com. Sorry I can't write more, but doing this on my mobile. Cheers, Alex

Alex, was it a mistake that

Alex, was it a mistake that one of the organizers was yelling profanity's and saying things like "I'll fucking kill you" to Jtodd in the lobby? These assholes think they are the igaming mafia and are invincible. Alex, you don't need CAP to do successful shows, and really this is probably their last show that will be supported by the industry anyways.

Let me understand this

Let me understand this correctly: The event organizers call a 'hit' on someone standing in the lobby. A bunch of goons rough up a young bloke in the hotel lobby .... in public. The young bloke is the son of someone the organizers have some sort of issue with. Then Alex (an event organizer) says, 'All is OK, it was a mistake' after he noticed everyone in the business was watching it. WTF? Its a mistake? Which one? A) The decision *by the organizers* to order the guy to be roughed up? B) The guys who roughed him up? C) The location where he was roughed up? (Should this have been in an alley-way?) D) Was it supposed to be someone else roughed up? E) Everyone watching it was a mistake? F) Alex stopping it? Now we know that these blokes settles a score the old fashioned way. They don't have the backbone to do it themselves, so they get goons to do their dirty work for them. Go to Afghanistan and fight there. The landscape there is more proper for you. Go back a thousand years, you don't belong in this century lad.

Early Reports

Had police called to the scene of the scuffle. In any scene of chaos there are always a few confusing accounts. It sounds like hotel security was being confused for police officers. Numerous eyewitnesses have since collaborated that Michael Corfman's son was pretty seriously manhandled by hotel security despite that they are paying customers at the hotel. Nobody knows for sure what exactly led up to that particular event from what we can piece together.
