Bookies Make Up for New England Losses

Despite getting crushed by sports bettors who were backing New England to cover against Minnesota, bookies made up for any losses with big wins by the Bears, Browns and Chargers.  In all, the Patriots represented only one of seven teams with heavy lopsided action that favored gamblers.

“The Saints losing were key to our entire day because of knocking out so many teasers and money-line parlays,” said MGM Resorts race and sports VP Jay Rood in an interview with the Linesmakers. “That was the game that was tied into other games throughout the schedule the most. Had they covered, tied to the Patriots covering, we might have been in some trouble heading into the late games.”

Another important cover was St. Louis winning outright in Tampa Bay where nearly 70% of those betting this game were backing the Bucs.

Also Green Bay’s inability to cover a -7.5 spread was like pouring salt on the betting publics wounds.

Things only got better Monday night when the Philadelpia Eagles managed to win outright against the Indianapolis Colts.  Indianapolis was seeing 75% of the action or greater at some books.
