Seattle Seahawks Odds to Win 2012 NFC West, Prediction

With Terrell Owens set to debut for the Seattle Seahawks Saturday night (August 18), their odds of winning the NFC West were coming in at 5.1 at Bookmaker.eu.  They were also getting the most future betting action from the general public.  The oddsmakers had Seattle winning 8 or more regular season games at -125.

Whether Owens proves to be a difference maker or not remains to be seen.

Athlon Sports released its 2012 Preview of the Seattle Seahawks and offered this analysis

If (quarterback Matt) Flynn can deliver consistently and the offensive line can stay healthy for a change, the Seahawks will be an improved team. A good goal for them is .500. Seattle should be able to put plenty of points on the board, especially through Lynch in a grind-it-out manner. Defensively, the Seahawks have reason to be encouraged by their secondary, but the lack of a big-play linebacker leaves them highly vulnerable. Plus, a testy schedule that includes Green Bay, New England, Detroit and Dallas as non-division opponents will keep this team from putting together win streaks of any substance.

BlogCritics.com’s Russell Evenhuis wrote an impressive 4-page preview of the 2012 Seattle Seahawks upcoming season potential.  Again, it all seems to hinge on Matt Flynn

If Matt Flynn proves he’s not a flash in the pan, Seattle looks like they can compete with the surprising San Francisco 49ers and the Arizona Cardinals (who refuse to go away). He looked good against Tennessee—not perfect, but definitely good.

I am not feeling the arrogant confidence that Mike Holmgren earned. Pete Carroll still has to prove there is more to his game than pom-poms.

A fast start against a very tough opening schedule would go a long way towards that end. The first three games have Seattle traveling to Arizona before returning home to face Dallas and Green Bay on Monday Night Football.

That should be enough time to know if this team is ready to step up or to still barely tread water.

Yesterday, I broke down the San Francisco 49ers chances of going deep in the 2013 Playoffs and considered the possibility this 49ers team could end up in the Super Bowl.  They are THAT good and probably too good to allow Seattle a shot at the NFC West division win.  Still, the Seahawks OVER 7.5 requires a mere $12.50 to win $10 (with the original $12.50 bet refunded should the OVER occur).  A $125 bet pays $100 ($100 is the profit).

Now looking at the schedule, one has to consider the UNDER paying closer to EVEN odds.  Home games against Green Bay, New England, San Francisco and quite possibly the New York Jets and Dallas for that matter make this one of the toughest schedules in the league.

Seattle has shown over these past few seasons they don’t travel well.  Yes they can possibly beat Arizona and St. Louis but games in Detroit, Carolina, Chicago and even Buffalo in the dead of winter make the OVER seem highly unlikely.

6 or 7 wins seems like the best prediction unless this Seahawks team does a “2012 San Francisco 49ers” on us and improves dramatically, something we just don’t see happening.

Go with the UNDER 7.5 at a line of -105.  Be sure to claim your FREE $500 in bets (for qualified customers ONLY and based on initial deposit).
