Colts vs. Broncos Line Moves Little Despite Welker Suspension

The Colts vs. Broncos betting line had remained at -7.5 in favor of Denver for Sunday night’s marquee matchup despite the suspension of star wide receiver Wes Welker over alleged ecstasy use.

Welker is accused of using the drug, which also goes by the name of Molly, and violating the National Football League’s strict policy regarding performance-enhancing drugs.

Welker tested positive for amphetamines from a sample taken shortly after he attended the Kentucky Derby in early May.

"I wouldn't have any idea where to get a Molly or what a Molly is," Welker said in an email to The Denver Post. "That's a joke. I don't do marijuana, I don't do drugs. I don't do any drugs."

At least one source told the Post that Welker actually tested positive for Adderall, which is permitted by NFL players only if cleared by the League.  Welker had not been cleared to use Adderall, according to this same source.

Welker suggested that the sample may have been tainted but questioned whether someone spiked his drink while attending the Derby.

Welker will be eligible to play again on October 6.

The Colts come into this game having lost their last six season openers Against The Spread.  That might not matter much as Indianapolis is 6-0 vs. Denver Straight Up in their last six meetings.  With Welker gone, the Broncos come into this game at a significant disadvantage.  Fortunately they are playing at home.

As ESPN.com noted, his suspension is a huge blow to the Broncos' receiving game. Only four wide receivers caught passes for Denver last season, and nearly 60 percent of those receptions will not be on the field for the Broncos in Week 1.

Xavier Worthy = Tyreek Hill 2.0?  Perhaps, and if that comes to fruition at any point in the future, the Bills only have themselves to blame.

J.J. McCarthy Drafted Number 3 Odds to Patriots

To be clear, the Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is pretty certain to land in Minnesota.  But what if the New England Patriots shock us and pick McCarthy at Number 3 before the Vikings get their opportunity at No. 5?
